About the Role

Operates magnetic resonance imaging equipment to produce cross-sectional images of patients' bodies for diagnostic purposes. Under the direction of the Chief of Radiology and the Imaging Services Director, performs related technological functions to ensure optimal diagnostic quality of patient care utilizing efficient and safe processes, with latitude for independent judgment, ingenuity, and initiative.

Responsibilities

  • Performs patient studies according to set protocol, including placing specified coil close to area of interest.
  • Operates imaging and other equipment devices to provide quality diagnostic services, including keying commands to specify scan sequences into computer, adjusting transmitters and receivers, and photographing images.
  • Interviews patients to explain MRI procedures, addressing concerns with tact, courtesy, and poise.
  • Ensures patient and staff safety by explaining safety protocols, requesting removal of hazardous metal objects, alerting staff of metal dangers, and monitoring patients via closed-circuit TV.
  • Orients new hires and trains MRI Technologists, students, and trainees, including directing, checking, and training other MRI employees in the absence of the MRI Supervising Technologist.
  • Performs other related duties as necessary.

Requirements

  • Two (2) years of recent, continuous experience as an MRI Technologist, fully proficient in all duties required of an MRI Technologist II.
  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • Radiologic Technologist Certificate (California).
  • Certified Radiologic Technologist - Venipuncture Certificate (California) within 6 months of hire.
  • Basic Life Support certification.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in teaching other Technologists.
  • Fully proficient in MRI to the satisfaction of the department manager, with knowledge of required protocols for complex MRI procedures.
  • Effective oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to present information in one-on-one and small group settings.
  • Willingness to work in a Labor Management Partnership environment.

Preferred Qualifications

  • ARRT certification preferred.

Schedule

  • Part-time, 24 hours per week.
  • Shift: Evening (2:00 PM – 10:30 PM).
  • Workdays: Week 1: Monday, Friday, Saturday, Sunday; Week 2: Monday, Friday.

Pay

$78.08 - $82.87 per hour. Kaiser Permanente offers a market-competitive total rewards package, with pay determined based on labor market data, internal alignment, and a candidate's relevant work experience, education, certifications, skills, and geographic location.

Work Setting

Onsite at Oakland Specialty Medical Office Building, Oakland, California.
