MRI Technologist (Casual/PRN)

About the role

The MRI Technologist will perform Magnetic Resonance studies while providing a quality health care service that includes total patient care in a comfortable, friendly environment. Excellent communication skills are essential due to required continuous interaction with public and professional/medical personnel.

Responsibilities

  • Participate in departmental and hospital programs for Quality Assessment and Improvement, identifying opportunities to improve services, making recommendations, and implementing actions as appropriate and consistent with the goals of Nemours.
  • Work with Siemens and GE MR Scanners and Advantage windows workstation to maintain a working knowledge and operate MRI equipment.
  • Perform patient examinations according to the protocol by the designated radiologist, verifying the quality of imaging before submission to radiologists.
  • Prepare and instruct patients/families regarding the imaging procedure, including explaining the procedure and answering pertinent procedural questions.
  • Administer and document contrast media per departmental protocols under the direct supervision of a radiologist/physician, observing patients for allergic reactions after administration.
  • Start IVs and inject contrast material for imaging studies, screen patients for contraindications, and prepare the room for imaging.
  • Operate hospital computer systems for patient data entry and retrieval/order entry, completing study documentation.
  • Demonstrate knowledge and skills necessary to provide care with respect to the appropriate chronological age, developmental age, or social maturity of the patient.
  • Aid in the training of new personnel, students, and physicians.
  • Work a flexible schedule, possess reliable transportation, and be available for on-call work.

Requirements

  • Trade school or college-based training required (i.e., Hospital-based program, Associate or Bachelor Degree program, graduate of an accredited MRI program, or completion of MRI training program).
  • Registered as an MR Technologist with ARRT, ARMIT, or CAMRT, or must obtain MRI board certification within 18 months of hire.
  • Hold an associate or bachelor’s degree in an allied health field and be certified through ARDMS or NMTCB, with MRI board certification required within 18 months of hire.
  • Graduate of an accredited MRI program with a minimum of 6 months of supervised clinical MRI scanning experience, must be registry-eligible through ARRT, ARDMS, or NMTCB, and must obtain MRI board certification within 90 days of hire.
  • Minimum of six (6) months experience required.
  • American Heart Association BLS Certification required or must be obtained within 90 days of hire.
  • State of Delaware Radiation License required within 90 days of hire for anyone holding NMTCB licensure only.
  • Pediatric MRI experience preferred.
