About the Role

The MRI Technologist I-IV operates magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) equipment to produce diagnostic images of the body. This role involves performing procedures as ordered, positioning patients, and ensuring high-quality diagnostic images through proper technique and post-processing.

Responsibilities

• Performs MRI procedures as ordered and obtains images according to written protocols.
• Positions patients appropriately using immobilization and protective equipment as directed.
• Organizes and accurately performs individual steps in established procedures in the proper sequence.
• Reviews, manipulates, and evaluates images to deliver high-quality diagnostic images, including post-processing at remote workstations.
• Screens and interviews each patient using the designated MRI Patient Clinical Assessment Form.
• Administers IV contrast with proper dosage according to department policy and documents dosage in the permanent record.
• Performs and documents quality control on equipment according to manufacturer guidelines or department protocols; takes appropriate action for abnormal results.
• Reports equipment problems or failures to Bio-Med or Manager.
• Ensures a safe and clean environment with all necessary supplies for studies and procedures.
• Applies and follows radiation safety principles (ALARA) to ensure patient and staff safety.
• Works with minimal supervision, making independent decisions while maintaining tact, maturity, and a positive attitude.
• Uses Picture Archival Computer System (PACS), Electronic Medical Records (EMR), and other relevant software.
• Engages in equitable distribution of departmental workloads and works in variable environments and locations.
• Performs routine assignments using existing procedures and develops competence through structured work assignments.

Requirements

• Completion of a JCERT-approved school of Radiology Technology or ACR-approved training course.
• Certified by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) in MRI, the American Registry of Magnetic Resonance Imaging Technologists (ARMRIT), or MRI certification eligible (must obtain within 12 months of hire date).
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification, accredited by the American Heart Association (AHA) or American Red Cross (ARC), required by the first day of employment.

Qualifications

• MRI Technologist I: 0–1.99 years of experience in medical imaging.
• MRI Technologist II: 2–4.99 years of experience in medical imaging.
• MRI Technologist III: 5–9.99 years of experience in medical imaging.
• MRI Technologist IV: 10+ years of experience in medical imaging.

Preferred Qualifications

• Certified by the State of Texas as a Medical Radiologic Technologist (MRT).
• Associate degree in Radiologic Sciences.
