About the role
A support worker, also known as a healthcare support worker, works with individuals who have various vulnerabilities. These vulnerabilities can vary significantly from one person to another. This role often includes assisting individuals with mental health issues, those recovering from addiction, people with learning difficulties, and those with disabilities. The support worker must communicate regularly with patients to understand their needs and address them appropriately.
Responsibilities
- Making sure that patients' appointments with their physicians are scheduled and kept on time.
- Ensuring the well-being and safety of patients under their care.
- Keeping track of patients' medications and ensuring they are available at all times.
- Communicating respectfully with patients and their families, when necessary.
- Providing support or care beyond the initial period if needed.
- In the event of serious side effects or health-related issues, promptly notifying the patient's physician and family.
