About the Role

The Material Planning and Logistics (MP&L) Manager will oversee materials planning, procurement, warehouse operations, and shipping/receiving functions. This role includes mastery of ERP-MRP systems, master scheduling, and supplier management, as well as staffing and talent development within the Shipping, Receiving, Traffic, and Inventory Control teams.

Responsibilities

  • Ensure on-time customer delivery performance, customer order management, and planning of customer transportation.
  • Develop strategies for continuous supply and timely procurement of raw materials and supplies to maintain maximum production levels at optimum costs.
  • Manage, control, and direct staff to achieve Materials profit and loss objectives, including minimizing excess and obsolete inventory and increasing annual inventory turns.
  • Ensure safe work practices in accordance with the Company Safety Program and compliance with regulatory agency rules such as OSHA.
  • Establish procurement standards, policies, and key vendor relationships/partnerships.
  • Drive cost reduction initiatives and technology improvements.
  • Manage supplier relationships and establish supplier quality standards.
  • Staff, structure, and maintain a productive team of highly skilled employees; serve as a member of Senior Staff.
  • Coordinate with Customers, Project Managers, and Production Managers to ensure materials are delivered to production according to schedule.
  • Manage in-plant inventories and control staff to achieve Materials profit and loss objectives.
  • Ensure accurate and regular inventory cycle counts and controls.
  • Develop, implement, and maintain policies, procedures, and material control systems according to ISO procedures.
  • Review, plan, and approve purchase orders and change notices.
  • Responsible for disposition of excess and obsolete materials.
  • Report to Senior Management regularly regarding objectives, goals, accomplishments, and expectations.
  • Train and develop the organization to understand critical concepts and principles of Lean and world-class materials management.
  • Participate in strategic meetings to capture and address continuity and improvement opportunities.
  • Ensure data integrity for AS400 MRP/ERP and SAP systems.
  • Lead migration from AS400 to SAP MRP/ERP platforms.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain Management or Business discipline (required).
  • CPIM/APICS certification (preferred).
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
  • 5–10 years of direct experience using ERP–MRP systems.
  • Minimum of 5–10 years of broad background experience in warehouse management, procurement, and materials management in a manufacturing environment.
  • Over 4 years of experience in a Lean manufacturing environment.
  • Prior experience with BPICS in the manufacturing industry (strong plus).
  • Hands-on manager with a high level of drive, integrity, and energy.
  • Strong leadership qualities and ability to motivate subordinates and peers.
  • Quantitative analytical and project management skills.
  • Strong understanding of integrated supply chain and logistics concepts.
  • Ability to coordinate multiple customer needs and requirements.
  • Outstanding verbal and written communication skills.
