About the role
The Public Safety Telecommunicator performs specialized work in receiving emergency calls for service and dispatching the appropriate police, fire, and EMS, as required. Using highly technical computer aided dispatch systems (CAD) and multi-channel radio/paging consoles, the Dispatcher must act quickly, efficiently, calmly, and accurately to process incoming emergency calls and dispatch and coordinate emergency responder resources.
Responsibilities
- Receives emergency calls for service and dispatches appropriate police, fire, and EMS units.
- Uses CAD and multi-channel radio/paging consoles to process incoming emergency calls and dispatch and coordinate emergency responder resources.
- Acts quickly, efficiently, calmly, and accurately to handle incoming emergency calls.
- Coordinates with other emergency services to ensure proper response and communication.
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Valid driver’s license.
- Must pass a background check.
- Must pass a drug test.
- Must meet physical requirements including vision, hearing, and strength.
Qualifications
- Experience in emergency call handling preferred.
- Knowledge of CAD and multi-channel radio/paging systems.
- Ability to work independently and under pressure.
- Excellent communication skills.
