Motor Vehicle Courier, G-12
Responsibilities
- Drive a variety of motor vehicles both on and off New York State property.
- Make regular statewide deliveries with New York State van or box truck.
- Move orders from the vehicle to the delivery or storage point.
- Ensure regular vehicle maintenance is performed and maintain maintenance records.
- Utilize a forklift and/or motorized pallet jack to unload incoming trucks and load outgoing trucks.
- Ensure inventory in the Center is organized and rotate stock as needed.
- Pick individual office orders from shelves and package orders appropriately for the type of delivery.
- Maintain equipment used to perform job duties.
- Assist with New York State office moves, including equipment, supplies, documents, forms, furniture, etc.
- Conduct physical inventory of forms and commodities.
- Load, unload, and move heavy equipment, supplies, and furniture by physically lifting items or operating a hand truck, forklift, or pallet jack using safe lifting practices, without damage to walls, floors, etc.
Requirements
- Possess and maintain a valid New York State driver’s license and a CDL Class B with Air Brake Endorsement.
- Must have been continuously licensed to drive an automobile for the three-year period immediately preceding the date of appointment.
- Able to push, pull, lift, and carry heavy objects and equipment (50+ pounds).
- Occasional heavy lifting required.
Qualifications
To be eligible for the Motor Vehicle Courier, G-12 position, you must meet one of the following conditions:
- NY HELPS: One year of experience that involved extensive face-to-face interaction with the general public while providing customer service; or 30 semester credit hours of college-level study and six months of extensive face-to-face interaction with the general public while providing customer service.
- Possess a high school diploma or a high school equivalency diploma.
- Transfer: One year of permanent, contingent-permanent, or 55b/c service allocated to a G-10 or higher eligible for transfer under Section 52.6 or Section 70.1 of Civil Service Law, or currently serving in the title and eligible for reassignment.
- Reinstatement: If you previously served in this title or in a title otherwise transferable to this title, you may be considered for reinstatement pursuant to Civil Service Law, if it is in the best interest of the agency. If you left state service more than one year ago, the reinstatement must also be approved by the Civil Service Commission. All reinstatements must serve a mandatory 52-week probation period.
- 55b/c Appointment: This position is eligible for 55b/c designation. Candidates with 55b/c eligibility are encouraged to apply and must submit their current 55b/c eligibility letter along with their application.
This title is part of the New York Hiring for Emergency Limited Placement Statewide Program (NY HELPS). For the duration of the NY HELPS Program, this title may be filled via a non-competitive appointment, meaning no examination is required, but all candidates must meet the minimum qualifications of the title. At a future date (within one year of permanent appointment), employees hired under NY HELPS will have their non-competitive employment status converted to competitive status without having to take a civil service test.
