About the role
The Motor Carrier Enforcement Inspector position involves enforcing commercial motor vehicle laws and regulations, investigating complaints, and ensuring compliance with state and federal safety standards. The role requires maintaining effective public relations, assisting other inspectors and law enforcement, and preparing reports and presentations related to highway safety.
Responsibilities
- Document and report economic violations with the Public Utilities Commission of Ohio (PUCO).
- Investigate assigned complaints regarding violations of PUCO rules and regulations.
- Utilize portable laptop and other computer equipment for inspections and reporting.
- Make on-site recommendations to correct violations.
- Provide assistance where possible to ensure compliance.
- Maintain effective public relations with drivers, company representatives, law enforcement officers, and others.
- Assist other inspectors, troopers, and local law enforcement as needed.
- Prepare and deliver presentations and/or training related to highway safety and compliance.
- Testify in court regarding violations.
Requirements
- Option 1: 6 months of experience enforcing commercial motor vehicle laws or regulations; AND 1 course or 3 months of experience in public relations; AND a valid driver’s license.
- Option 2: 6 months of training or 6 months of experience in motor carrier inspection or commercial vehicle maintenance; AND 1 course or 3 months of experience in public relations; AND a valid driver’s license.
- Position-Specific Minimum Qualifications: A valid driver’s license is required.

Schedule
Full-time. Hours worked: 6:00 AM to 10:00 PM; working days and hours may vary.
