Motor Broom Operator - Street Transportation Department

About the role
As a Motor Broom Operator in the Street Maintenance Division, you will operate heavy-duty, motorized street sweeping equipment to clean City streets. Responsibilities include performing routine preventative maintenance, servicing vehicles, making minor running repairs, and assisting with the right-of-way crew. The primary assignment for this vacancy is with the Street Cleaning Crew.
Work is performed under the supervision of a Street Maintenance Foreman II, who periodically inspects work for compliance with safety standards and operational efficiency. This position is based out of various service centers throughout Phoenix.
Schedule
- Monday through Thursday, 3:30 AM – 2:00 PM
- Tuesday through Friday, 3:30 AM – 2:00 PM
Shift differential pay is available for hours worked during nights and weekends.
Responsibilities
- Operate motor broom equipment skillfully and safely in accordance with applicable traffic laws
- Perform routine preventative maintenance and servicing of vehicles
- Make minor running repairs on vehicles
- Assist with the right-of-way crew as needed
- Conduct CDL 7 Step Airbrake and pre- and post-trip inspections
- Read and follow electronic maps, paper route maps, and GIS/GPS location devices
- Perform minor adjustments and repairs on motor brooms
Requirements
- Class A or B Commercial Driver License
- 92 documented hours on heavy-duty, motorized street sweeping equipment OR qualification for "out-of-class" pay on similar equipment
- Ability to perform unannounced alcohol and drug testing as mandated by law
- Willingness to work irregular hours, including second and third shifts, weekends, holidays, and evenings
- Capability to move objects weighing up to 50 pounds
- Ability to work outdoors in various environmental conditions, including heat, cold, rain, air pollution, and dust
- Must be physically capable of operating vehicles safely and possess a valid driver’s license with an acceptable driving record
Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications:
- Class A or B Commercial Driver License
- 92 documented hours on heavy-duty, motorized street sweeping equipment or equivalent experience
- All finalists are subject to a criminal background check
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience performing CDL 7 Step Airbrake and pre- and post-trip inspections
- Experience reading and following electronic maps, paper route maps, and GIS/GPS location devices
- Experience with minor adjustments and repairs of motor brooms
Pay
Pay Range: $25.43 to $34.08 per hour
Hiring Range: $25.43 to $32.46 per hour
The actual salary offer will consider factors such as skills, qualifications, experience, education, licenses, training, and internal equity.
