About the Role
The City of Fort Worth Environmental Services Department is seeking an Equipment Operator - Street Sweeper to support litter control operations, including street sweeping and related efforts. This position contributes to the City’s vision of being the “most livable and best managed city in the country.” Multiple vacancies are expected to be filled with this announcement.
Responsibilities
- Maintain and operate various types of motorized equipment, including street sweepers, roll-offs, and skid steers.
- Rotate between street sweeping and litter abatement work while ensuring the safety of crew members and the public.
- Operate equipment as needed on assigned work orders and verify waste locations, entering information into a computer.
- Maintain records of equipment usage, operations performed, and regulatory compliance.
- Perform preventative maintenance on equipment and inspect it before and after each use.
- Complete daily operations reports, time sheets, and scheduled street sweeping routes for arterials and thoroughfares.
- Operate a variety of hand tools and motorized equipment, some requiring specialized certification.
Requirements
- High School diploma or GED.
- One (1) year of experience operating motorized equipment.
- Valid Driver’s License.
- Possession of a valid Commercial Driver’s License Class “A” or “B” at the time of hire (no air brake restrictions).
- Ability to obtain a Waste Screening Certificate and Chlorofluorocarbon (CFC) Extraction Certificate within six (6) months of hire.
Preferred Qualifications
- Two (2) years of experience operating motorized equipment.
- Basic computer skills (data entry, email, work order management).
- Experience or certifications related to the vacancy.
Working Conditions
- Physical demands include heavy work: exerting up to 100 pounds of force occasionally, up to 50 pounds frequently, and/or up to 20 pounds constantly.
- May require standing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching, walking, repetitive motions, climbing, balancing, pushing, pulling, and lifting.
- Exposure to moving mechanical parts, odors, dust, poor ventilation, chemicals, oils, extreme temperatures, inadequate lighting, intense noise, gases, vibrations, and workspace restrictions.
Schedule
- Full-time position (at least 40 hours per week).
- Possible 4-day, 10-hour schedules: Monday–Thursday (6:00 am – 4:30 pm) or Tuesday–Friday (6:00 am – 4:30 pm).
- May include holidays, inclement weather days, weekends, and occasional Saturday/Sunday shifts based on demand.
Pay
$19.74 - $24.67 per hour.
