About the Role

Part-time position on the 12-hour night shift within the Mother Baby Unit located on the 2nd floor of the East Tower. This unit features 40 private rooms serving high-risk and low-risk postpartum patients, post-operative surgery and medical patients, and includes a newborn nursery. Nursing and medical providers collaborate as a team to deliver comprehensive care for newborns, mothers, and medical patients.

Responsibilities

• Assess, plan, and implement high-quality, individualized nursing care for patients of all ages while ensuring patient comfort.
• Practice safe patient handling techniques and evaluate assigned patients continuously to provide ongoing treatment.
• Anticipate, identify, and address the educational and emotional needs of patients and families.
• Guide and direct healthcare personnel (e.g., Patient Care Technicians) in patient care.
• Maintain knowledge of equipment setup, maintenance, and use (e.g., IV pumps, monitoring equipment, drainage devices).
• Utilize safeguards such as IV pump drug libraries and monitor alarms to maximize patient safety.
• Initiate emergency support measures (e.g., cardiopulmonary resuscitation, protecting patients from injury).
• Assist with patient care duties/tasks (e.g., emptying drainage devices, ambulating, hygiene).

Requirements

• Current or compact state licensure as a Registered Nurse issued/defined by the State of Iowa.
• Proof of completion of Mandatory Reporter – Child and/or Dependent Adult Abuse training within three (3) months of hire.
• American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Providers certification within six (6) weeks of hire.
