MOT Equipment Mechanic
Description
The Equipment Mechanic position at ACME BARRICADES is responsible for maintaining Maintenance of Traffic equipment (MOT), including Message Boards, Arrow Boards, Speed Radar Boards, Portable Regulatory Boards, and utility trailers. This position requires 12 Volt diagnostic ability with CPU, PCB, Solar Regulatory Chargers, & Character Panel wiring, familiarity with Series and Parallel electrical circuits, and welding/fabrication ability.
- Ability to work on small equipment
- Trailer mechanical repair experience a plus
- Electrical and welding experience a plus
- 2-4 years of preventative maintenance of trailers a plus
- Battery charging and testing experience a plus
Essential Job Functions

- Determine equipment condition by conducting inspections and diagnostic tests
- Identify worn and damaged parts
- Complete preventive maintenance schedules
- Install component and part upgrades
- Perform general maintenance of trailers
- Correct equipment deficiencies by removing, repairing, adjusting, overhauling, assembling, disassembling, and replacing major assemblies, sub-assemblies, components
- Verify equipment performance by conducting tests; adjusting controls and systems
- Maintain equipment appearance by cleaning, washing, and painting
- Annotate services and repairs in equipment records
- Keep shop equipment operating by following operating instructions; troubleshooting breakdowns; maintaining supplies; performing preventive maintenance; calling for repairs
- Evaluate service and parts options
- Keep supplies ready by inventorying stock; placing orders; verifying receipt
- Perform trailer mechanical repair experience a plus
- Electrical and welding experience a plus
- 2-4 years of preventative maintenance of trailers a plus
- Battery charging and testing experience a plus

Requirements
- Valid driver's license required, will require passing MVR and controlled substance test, may require background and criminal record check
- Knowledge of local driving rules and regulations
- Repeated physical effort including driving for several hours per day or several hours at a time, standing and walking for extended periods of time (more than several hours), loading and unloading equipment into and out of company vehicles, walking on varying ground surfaces and frequently lifting a minimum of 50 pounds
- Working from elevated platforms, ladders or truck beds
- Operating hand/power tools, manual dexterity to operate keyboards and smart phones, physical agility to use arms, legs and hands repetitively
- Working outdoors, working safely under adverse environmental and weather conditions which include high speed traffic areas, heavy construction equipment, fuel fumes and construction substances
- Comfortable around vehicles moving through work zones and maintaining constant awareness of surroundings on construction site including placement of machinery and equipment, other employees and construction activities
- Communicating clearly - both written and verbally, ability to complete daily paperwork as required by supervisor
- Working a flexible schedule which can include day or night shifts, weekends and/or holidays, adjusting to a changing work schedule, working overtime and working individually and as a team with other employees
- Maintain company standards post-employment for background checks, criminal record, driving record and controlled substance/drug testing
