Mortgage Loan Underwriter
Job Summary
The Mortgage Loan Underwriter reviews, analyzes, and makes decisions on first and second mortgage residential real estate loan products which align with the organization's overall strategy and within Langley and industry guidelines. The Underwriter ensures mortgage loans are saleable in the secondary market or meet Langley portfolio policy and guidelines. The Mortgage Loan Underwriter works in a fast-paced environment with tight deadlines, often involving shifting priorities and the work independently.
Essential Functions, Duties, And Responsibilities
- Determines and thoroughly documents loan conditions and provides clear communication to processors and loan officers regarding documents needed for mortgage loan files to ensure quick turnaround time.
- Reviews loans for accuracy and compliance with investor guidelines, Federal regulations and credit policy and recommends approval for Langley.
- Analyzes a broad range of credit and compliance documents related to the mortgage lending process and evaluates loan risk through verification of loan application information.
- Possesses lending authority up to 500k on first mortgages, HELOC’s, or additional approved portfolio products. Makes loan decisions independently (approves or denies loan application).
- Provides special project support and input into new products or initiatives to department.
- Provides prompt, professional and quality service to originating branches, loan officers and correspondents.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in a business-related field or equivalent work experience in a mortgage lending environment with at least one year of underwriting experience required.
- One year of experience with Automated Underwriting Systems and working within a virtual environment with documentation and business partners required.
Targeted Salary Range
- $57,100 - $72,000 based on qualifications and experience
