Mortgage Loan Originator - Internal

About the role

Originates mortgage applications and conducts interviews with loan applicants. Gathers documents to help support approval decisions. Reviews closing disclosure with members to prepare them for closing. Examines, evaluates, and submits borrower applications for credit or extension of lines of credit in accordance with sound underwriting practices as set out in policy and procedure.

Responsibilities

• Meets assigned sales and service goals.
• Originates applications and conducts interviews with loan applicants through online, phone, Loan Service Center, and Member Service Center channels.
• Enters mortgage applications into the origination system, including pre-qualifications, credit reports, tax assessments, and DU Findings.
• Provides information concerning the mortgage loan process, procedures, and other credit union products and services via in-person, online, or telephone interactions.
• Adheres to Member Service Standards set forth by the credit union at all times.
• Processes real estate loan applications, including conforming mortgage loans to secondary market standards (ordering credit reports, wood infestation reports, and income/employment and asset documentation).
• Assists the VP of Mortgage Lending with training opportunities such as monthly webinars, mortgage training for staff, and other training needs within the credit union.
• Maintains application and approval records to comply with the Home Mortgage Disclosure Act.
• Assists the VP of Mortgage Lending with various monthly reports regarding mortgage origination.
• Assists members, branch, and call-center personnel with questions regarding the mortgage process, mortgage products, pending applications, and member inquiries.
• Responds to member and potential borrower requests via phone, email, online/chat, and in person.
• Acts as a liaison to third parties such as appraisers, mortgage attorneys, realtors, and builders for the mortgage process.
• Cross-sells other credit union products.
• Performs other duties as assigned.

Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• At least two years of related experience and/or training in real estate lending, or an equivalent combination of education and experience in a related field.
