About the role
As a Mortgage Loan Officer, you will originate and close real estate loans in compliance with federal and state banking laws, while building and maintaining positive relationships with customers. You will work within established lending objectives, policies, and procedures to support the bank’s growth and community impact.
Responsibilities
- Provide prompt, courteous, and efficient service to internal and external customers, collaborating across departments to advance the bank’s interests.
- Adhere to all Real Estate Lending Department policies and regulatory requirements, maintaining expertise through training and professional development.
- Assist customers with mortgage loan inquiries, explaining products and helping them select the best fit for their needs.
- Take loan applications (online and in-person), interview applicants, request credit reports, and analyze financial status, credit, and property evaluations to determine loan feasibility.
- Facilitate loan negotiations, refer loans to underwriting, ensure accurate loan commitments, and oversee timely closings and funding.
- Approve loans within specified limits, communicate decisions to applicants, and ensure supporting documents are prepared and delivered.
- Comply with all federal and state mortgage lending laws and regulations.
- Maintain knowledge of Conventional, VA, FHA, and Rural Development loans for the secondary market, as well as portfolio-held loans.
- Perform onsite inspections and analyze loan portfolios to identify potential issues, including delinquent accounts, and develop repayment solutions.
- Stay informed about real estate loan market trends, identify lending opportunities, and contribute to program development.
- Build and maintain relationships with businesses, realtors, title companies, builders, CPAs, attorneys, and other professionals to promote lending programs.
- Participate in business development activities, represent the bank in professional and community organizations, and promote its positive image.
- Provide backup support to other Mortgage Loan Officers as needed.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in business (with coursework in accounting, finance, or economics) or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Three to four years of loan banking experience and/or training.
