About the role
Soo Co-op Credit Union is seeking a Mortgage Loan Officer to assist members in navigating the homebuying process. This role offers opportunities for growth and meaningful impact.
Responsibilities
- Build strong, professional relationships with members and guide them through the mortgage application and lending process.
- Help members understand their mortgage options and recommend products that best fit their needs.
- Manage mortgage applications through Encompass, complete required calculations and documentation, and ensure loans meet applicable underwriting and compliance requirements.
- Cooky with real estate agents, title companies, appraisers, and other parties to help keep the mortgage process moving smoothly.
- Lock interest rates and prepare, review, and explain mortgage documentation to borrowers.
- Maintain communication with members throughout the process and provide a high level of service from application through closing.
- Cross-train within the Mortgage Department and support the team as needed.
Requirements
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build positive relationships with members, coworkers, and outside partners.
- Strong attention to detail and the ability to manage multiple applications, deadlines, and priorities.
- Good judgment and problem-solving skills, including the ability to research and apply policies, procedures, and regulatory requirements.
- The ability to work both independently and collaboratively as part of a team.
- A professional, member-focused approach and a willingness to learn and continue developing.
Preferred Experience
- Previous mortgage lending experience preferred.
- Familiarity with mortgage lending systems such as FICS and Encompass is preferred, but not required.
Salary Information
$20.00–$25.00/hour, commensurate with experience; flexibility for highly qualified candidates.

Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Prior experience in banking, mortgage lending, financial services, or a related field.
- Ability to occasionally lift up to 10 lbs.
- Ability to sit for prolonged periods.
- Regular, predictable, in-person attendance at a Soo Co-op Credit Union branch is an essential function of this position.
