Mortgage Loan Officer

About the role
We are seeking a Mortgage Loan Officer to join our Michigan First Mortgage Office. The Mortgage Loan Officer will report to the Loan Center Manager and strive to make an impact on clients' lives by providing up-to-date mortgage information to help them meet their financial goals. This role involves increasing the client’s mortgage loan portfolio through business development, attracting customers, completing the mortgage loan process, and closing loans.
Responsibilities
- Advise and educate clients on the home-buying or refinance process and how to better manage their mortgage needs.
- Meet mortgage loan operational standards by contributing to strategic plans, implementing production, productivity, and customer-service standards, resolving problems, and identifying system improvements.
- Assist in preparing credit information to establish qualifying range, including applicant’s assets, credit experience, and income based on predetermined standards.
- Maintain records of credit transactions, inquiries, pending loans, Loan Activity reports, and Daily Loan Listings.
- Attract new mortgage loan applications by developing relationships within the community, particularly with real estate professionals, and making sales calls to prospective customers.
- Complete mortgage loans by monitoring collection, verification, and preparation of mortgage loan documentation; scheduling and completing mortgage loan closings.
- Perform duties accurately and in a timely manner.
- Act as an advocate of The Michigan First Way, supporting all facets including Our Promise, 5 STARS Service, SOLVE IT, and ISMs.
- Foster a positive demeanor and professional image in all interactions with team members and members.
- Reflect ISMs in daily job performance and business interactions while executing on goals and initiatives.
- Utilize EMEC (Every Member’s Experience Counts) in day-to-day responsibilities when communicating with members.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- High school diploma; BA degree in Finance, Accounting, or Economics preferred.
- Previous experience in financial software or sales is a plus.
- Passion, strong communication skills, self-motivation, positive and competitive attitude.
- Detail-oriented with the ability to present information effectively in one-on-one and small group settings.
- Proficiency with standard office equipment, financial calculations, and operational software.
- Skills beyond telemarketing; organic lead generation and social media efficiency are essential for long-term success.
