About the role
General Purpose: Responsible for originating both internal and external mortgage loans by supporting local branches, working leads from various internal sources, developing outside referral relationships, and driving external production.
Responsibilities
- Work leads from multiple sources, including referrals, online inquiries, and branch-generated leads.
- Proactively source and develop new business opportunities through networking, referrals, and marketing strategies.
- Maintain a strong understanding of local real estate market trends and industry regulations.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with clients, real estate agents, and other industry professionals.
- Achieve and exceed sales targets and performance metrics.
- Perform notary public duties as required.
- Reject loan applications not in conformance with Black Hills FCU policies.
- Prepare necessary notification and forms.
- Refer rejected loans to Mortgage Department Manager as needed.
- Identify, analyze, and recommend solutions to problems and opportunities within existing products and services.
Requirements
- Strong knowledge of mortgage products, services, and industry regulations.
- Knowledge of laws and regulations affecting Credit Union operations.
- Knowledge of organization's policies/procedures and Credit Union's service philosophy.
- Knowledge and delivery of the ENGAGE model.
- The ability to execute time management and self-discipline skills.
- The ability to comprehend complex functions and procedures and to be able to disseminate that knowledge in a clear and understandable format to others.
- The ability to express oneself, clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing.
- The ability to prepare and maintain confidential records and reports.
- The ability to gather, assemble, correlate, and analyze facts and develop solutions.
- The ability to analyze statistics and financial data.
- The ability to assess the needs of multiple members and prioritize requests to ensure that all members receive the highest quality service possible.
- The ability to handle daily routine with moderate freedom to interpret and act upon various situations.
- The ability to present a professional and personable personality that communicates to members and visitors that the credit union is a professional financial institution.

Qualifications (Education/Experience)
- A four-year college level of language, math and reasoning skills.
- Three years’ consecutive experience as Personal Mortgage Associate or minimum of five years’ direct experience and skill in the areas of real estate lending or a related field.
- Formal training should be supplemented with continuing education.
