About the role
This position is responsible for all accounting functions and the financial and regulatory reporting of the Mortgage Company.
Responsibilities
- Manages the staff of the Mortgage accounting department.
- Oversees the Mortgage Company’s entire accounting operation, managing financial reporting, ensuring compliance with GAAP and Regulatory accounting and reporting.
- Assists with Mortgage budget to actual reporting.
- Responsible for month-end close process, analytical review of general ledger transactions, and complex accounting transactions specific to the mortgage lending industry such as mortgage servicing rights, mark-to-market valuations, and hedge accounting.
- Responsible for all monthly financial statement reporting, including annual financial statements, and GNMA HUD annual financial statements.
- Assists with the bank’s quarterly Call Report filings.
- Serves as a relationship partner for the company’s accounting firms, banking regulators, investment bankers, legal counsel, and other financial services partners.
- Reviews reconciliations of Mortgage DDA and general ledger accounts.
- Responsible for adherence to all policies and procedures, and strengthening policies, procedures, and internal controls.
- Performs any other duties as requested by Executive Management.
- Performs other duties as requested by Executive Management or Supervisor.
- Completes all required compliance exams on a yearly basis.
- Adheres to all First United Policies and Procedures.
- Dresses professionally.
- Recommends to supervisor possible methods to improve department.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting.
- Certified Public Accountant preferred.
- Experience in Mortgage and Bank Accounting.
Skills
- Proficient in Excel.
- Familiarity with loan servicing software such as ICE MSP.
- Familiarity with accounting software such as Prologue.
- Familiarity with Jack Henry or similar AS400 software.
