About the role
The Meteorologist forecasts weather conditions, produces, and anchors weather reports for all platforms in a clear, engaging, and meaningful manner for news consumers. They ensure all weather content meets company standards for journalistic integrity and production quality.
Responsibilities
- Produce and present weather reports for all platforms.
- Write and deliver weather stories clearly and concisely.
- Assist in writing, copy editing, researching, and coordinating weather programming and other content.
- Respond to breaking and/or severe weather events and urgent newsroom situations.
- Work closely with the weather team to develop comprehensive weather coverage.
- Participate in promotional activities, including public appearances.
- Perform special projects and other duties as assigned.
- Write web stories detailing the local forecast on a daily basis.
- Interact with viewers and users on social media sites.
Requirements & Skills
- Bachelor’s degree in Meteorology or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and work-related experience.
- Fluency in English.
- Excellent communication skills, both oral and written, with the ability to ad lib when required.
- Minimum five years’ experience in weather reporting or anchoring (varies by market size).
- Superior on-air presence.
- Experience guiding, directing, and motivating others.
- Ability to identify developmental needs and coach or mentor others to improve skills.
- Proficiency with office equipment such as computers, telephones, copiers, scanners, and fax machines.
- Ability to meet deadlines, prioritize assignments, and handle multiple tasks simultaneously.
- Strong understanding of meteorology and a proven track record in forecasting.
- Valid driver’s license with a good driving record.
- Flexibility to work any shift.
Pay
$48,000–$51,000 salary plan.
