Qualifications

  • Knowledge of child development
  • Developmentally appropriate teaching strategies
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Successfully pass background check
  • Experience in early childhood education or relevant field preferred
  • Education required: High school diploma or GED

Responsibilities

  • Teach and supervise all students in the Montessori Method and curriculum in all academic and specialty areas of study under the guidance of the Lead Teacher
  • Prepare materials and maintain their cleanliness and good condition/repair
  • Provide a safe and secure environment for children to feel comfortable and ensure children are supervised within sight and sound at all times
  • Support children with daily care routines including diaper changing, toileting, handwashing, dressing, meal times, and rest time in a respectful and nurturing manner
  • Maintain proper diapering and sanitation procedures in accordance with State of Michigan licensing regulations and school policies
  • Absorb a clean, orderly, and developmentally appropriate classroom environment including disinfecting tables, shelves, toys, and toileting areas as needed throughout the day
  • Support children’s emotional, social, and physical development by modeling grace and courtesy, redirecting behavior positively, and helping children develop independence skills
  • Be in attendance at all assistant staff meetings and parent meetings as requested by the Head of School or Lead Teacher
  • Maintain ongoing communication with team members and lead teacher
  • Absorb a classroom schedule created by the lead teacher
  • Absorb classroom messages and messages from home
  • Absorb student information and classroom observations using our electronic system Transparent Classroom
  • Report all accidents and incidents immediately and prepare a written report in Transparent Classroom stating the date, time, and nature of the accident and the action taken
  • Follow all CMSAA policies and procedures as stated in the Employee and Parent Handbooks and the School’s rules and regulations, as presently existing or as may hereafter be amended
  • Follow all standards in accordance with Montessori best practices and principles, State of MI, Bureau of Child and Adult Licensing, and Washtenaw County Department of Public Health
  • Model grace and courtesy with students and adults at all times, be patient, flexible and have a positive attitude in working with all children, staff and parents
  • Sustained and directed by the Head of School and Lead teacher must obtain 16 hours of professional development courses per year
  • Assist when necessary in other classrooms and facilitate breaks throughout the school
