About the Role
Observes cardiac monitors to identify abnormal heart rhythms under the supervision of a registered nurse. Performs duties in a centralized monitoring environment that monitors patients across multiple departments.
Responsibilities
- Observes cardiac monitors and reports any changes in cardiac rhythm per policy.
- Receives report from the previous shift and documents strips per policy.
- Responsible for the management and distribution of transmitter boxes. Ensures transmitter boxes are returned to the surveillance center in a timely manner after discontinuation of telemetry monitoring.
- Reports problems regarding poor transmission, etc. to the appropriate unit and personnel.
- Reports telemetry system failures to designated personnel and departments.
- Completes telemetry summary report per policy guidelines.
- Triages incoming phone calls, provides appropriate information in a calm and concise manner, and logs phone calls.
- Maintains adequate supplies and keeps the monitoring areas and equipment clean and organized.
- Participates in training and the continuous development of new staff.
- Attends educational programs, in-services, and meetings as required.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
- No previous experience required; previous experience in a healthcare setting preferred.
- After hire, requires attendance of formal arrhythmia training class and successful completion of the Prisma Health Arrhythmia exam with a minimum passing score within 2 attempts. Successful completion must be done within 30 days of hire.
- Arrhythmia competencies must be maintained on an annual basis if working in a monitor tech role.
