About the role
Observes cardiac monitors to identify abnormal heart rhythms under the supervision of a registered nurse. Performs duties in a centralized monitoring environment that monitors patients across multiple departments.
Responsibilities
- Observes cardiac monitors and reports any changes in cardiac rhythm per policy.
- Receives report from the previous shift and documents strips per policy.
- Manages and distributes transmitter boxes; ensures boxes are returned to the surveillance center after telemetry monitoring is discontinued.
- Reports problems regarding poor transmission or telemetry system failures to appropriate personnel.
- Completes telemetry summary report per policy guidelines.
- Triages incoming phone calls, provides information in a calm and concise manner, and logs calls.
- Maintains adequate supplies and keeps monitoring areas and equipment clean and organized.
- Participates in training and continuous development of new staff; attends educational programs, in-services, and meetings as required.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Minimum Requirements
- Education: High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
- Experience: No previous experience required. Previous experience in a healthcare setting preferred.
Certifications and Training
- After hire, requires attendance of formal arrhythmia training class and successful completion of the Prisma Health Arrhythmia exam with a minimum passing score within 2 attempts.
- Successful completion of the arrhythmia exam must be completed within 30 days of hire.
- Arrhythmia competencies must be maintained on an annual basis if working in a monitor tech role.
