Responsibilities
- Maintains ongoing, high-level surveillance of patient’s cardiac rhythms and notifies nursing/clinicians of any rate/rhythm changes according to clinician/provider orders.
- Monitors patient’s heart rhythm and documents on patient record per departmental standards.
- May initiate and discontinue monitoring equipment on admission, transfer, or discharge.
- Performs configuration, troubleshooting, cleaning and tracking of devices as necessary.
- Performs clerical duties related to admission, discharge, and documentation of patient information from Centralized Monitoring.
- Answers telephone and communicates clearly when receiving information from units or providers.
- Uses clear and complete communication with unit personnel when delivering information about changes in patient rhythm.
Qualifications
- Satisfactory completion of cardiac arrhythmia classes and ability to interpret cardiac rhythms within six months of hiring.
- Prior medical terminology or medical office coursework preferred.
- Six months of nursing assistant or prior clerical experience in a healthcare field. Minimum of one year nursing assistant experience preferred.
- Writes, reads, comprehends and speaks fluent English.
- Able to document accurately and timely.
- Multicultural sensitivity.
- Microsoft Office – basic computer skills.
- Customer/patient focused.
- Critical thinking skills using independent judgment in making decisions.
