About the role
The Telemetry Monitor Tech assists the nursing staff by continuously monitoring cardiac rhythms and performing various patient care activities related to cardiac telemetry monitoring. Detect and document arrhythmias and notify the nursing staff as needed.
- Assists the nurse by continually assessing the patient’s cardiac rhythm, rate, and any significant changes, documenting strips every shift and with any changes.
- Coordinates patient care activities through collaboration and planning with other members of the health care team.
- Demonstrates knowledge and skills necessary to provide care based on physical, psychosocial, educational, safety, and related criteria for adolescent, adult, and geriatric patients.
- Applies transmitters to newly admitted patients with a telemetry order.
- Troubleshoots and identifies problems with equipment, reporting issues to GE and Bio Med.
- Completes quality audits as assigned accurately and timely.
- Retrieves telemetry transmitters when patients are discharged.
- Answers telephone promptly, relaying information appropriately, accurately, and professionally.
- Visually and audibly monitors and analyzes patient’s cardiac rhythm, accurately identifying basic rhythms and dysrhythmias.
- Immediately reports all significant changes to the patient’s nurse or charge nurse.
- Maintains accurate and current records of telemetry patients, documenting rhythm strips at the start of the shift and with any changes.
- Ensures economical and safe utilization of telemetry supplies and proper cleaning and storage of discontinued equipment.
- Attends all required educational programs and in-services.
Requirements
- Basic Cardiac Life Support must be obtained within 30 days of employment start date.
- High School Graduate / GED.
