About the role

As a monitor for investigator-initiated research, you will focus on safeguarding and improving the quality of clinical studies governed by the Dutch Medical Research Involving Human Subjects Act (WMO), where LUMC is the sponsor. Study visits take place at the LUMC and participating research centers across the Netherlands. Preparatory work can also be performed remotely from home.

Responsibilities

• Conduct study visits, including advisory meetings, initiation visits, routine monitoring, and close-out visits.
• Develop monitoring plans and reports on conducted monitoring visits.
• Maintain contact with researchers and study teams.
• Follow up on improvement actions by researchers and provide advice on these actions.

Work environment

The Quality of Patient Care and Research Directorate (DKP) contributes to optimizing quality processes, fostering a quality mindset, and applying legal frameworks. The department oversees both research and healthcare quality. You will primarily join a team of experts focused on the quality of clinical research, consisting of four advisors and three monitors. Currently, we are seeking two new monitor colleagues with relevant experience for 24 hours per week.

You will work independently, accurately, and autonomously, with most coordination among colleagues focusing on task distribution and serving as a knowledge resource for one another. Preparations, study visits, and follow-up work are performed independently, enabling a largely remote work setup. Study visits occur at the LUMC and various research centers nationwide. The team is considering a regional approach (North, East, West, and South Netherlands) to optimize travel time and align with monitors' locations.

Requirements

• Completed (para)medical education at HBO or university level.
• Preferably at least two years of experience as a Clinical Research Associate (CRA) or monitor.
• Up-to-date knowledge of ICH-GCP, WMO, and CTR.
• A valid BROK certificate is a plus.
• Excellent command of Dutch and English, both written and verbal.

You maintain oversight and plan efficiently while working accurately and structured. Even with ad-hoc questions, you prioritize effectively and maintain a focus on quality. You are customer-oriented, easily establish contact, and build sustainable relationships with colleagues and study teams. Independent work suits you; you take initiative and actively contribute to practical solutions.

Pay

Salary ranges from a minimum of €3,897 to a maximum of €5,341 gross per month (scale 9, CAO UMC), based on a full-time position. A salary increase of 3.5% will apply from May 1, 2027. This role is for 24 hours per week with a fixed-term contract and the prospect of a permanent position.
