About the Role
To supervise students in various parts of the school complex, helping to maintain a safe, orderly school environment.
Responsibilities
- Follows all laws, Board Policies, regulations, rules, and procedures, and complies with instructions and/or directives from supervisors.
- Works primarily independently in assigned settings.
- Establishes an effective working rapport with staff and maintains positive relationships with internal and external publics.
- Assists administration, faculty, and staff in maintaining a safe, orderly school environment for students, employees, and visitors.
- Monitors student behavior in all areas inside and outside of the building as assigned.
- Maintains appropriate relations with and provides assistance to students, staff, and others as needed.
- Reports violations of policies, procedures, or rules and any situations that could impact safety.
- Escorts persons, including students, parents/guardians, and visitors.
- Assists with attendance procedures, including tardy information and tardy student procedures.
- Monitors doors, windows, bathrooms, lavatories, and lockers to ensure proper use and security.
- Monitors hallways and stairways for proper conduct, safety, student IDs, dress code, passes, and visitor identification.
- Monitors parent drop-off and/or pick-up areas as assigned.
- Monitors the cafeteria, cleans tables, sweeps floors between lunches, and assists students with opening containers, recycling, and sign-in/sign-out logs.
- Provides office assistance, such as delivering items, laminating, shredding, filling mailboxes, covering phones, and minimal filing.
- Monitors the building during after-school hours to ensure safety, security, and proper conduct.
- Promotes the proper use of school property and reports misuse or unsafe conditions.
- Maintains accurate records and submits reports in a timely manner while maintaining confidentiality.
- Works additional hours as necessary to complete tasks.
- Participates in professional development activities to maintain job-related knowledge and growth.
- Performs other duties as assigned by the Superintendent or designee.
Requirements
- Ability to read, write, and speak English fluently.
- High school diploma, GED, or equivalent is desired; associate degree or two years of postsecondary studies preferred.
- Experience working in a school setting or related environment is preferred.
- Experience working and interacting with students is preferred.
- Effective communication, judgment, planning, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to follow directives and adhere to the established chain of command.
- Dependable, punctual, flexible, and professional in appearance and demeanor.
- Courteous to students, staff, and the general public.
- Adequate knowledge of applicable technology resources.
- Strong interpersonal skills, with the ability to work independently or on a team.
- Ability to operate and perform basic service or repair on equipment relative to the position.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to be on one’s feet for prolonged periods and walk the confines of the building or assigned area.
- Ability to move about the work area to access materials, file cabinets, office machinery, etc.
- Ability to travel between school district buildings and other job-related locations.
- Ability to withstand changes in environmental conditions inside and outside the work facility.
- Ability to access all work areas and locations.
- Ability to lift as required.
- Ability to bend, stoop, or reach above shoulder level.
- Acceptable vision and hearing.
- Ability to climb stairs and ramps.
