About the role

The University of Georgia is seeking a Molecular Laboratory Technician II to join our VetMed-Tifton Diagnostic Lab. This position is responsible for performing molecular diagnostic laboratory testing according to laboratory standard operating procedures (SOPs).

Responsibilities

  • Conduct diagnostic and surveillance testing, including handling specimens, nucleic acid extraction, performing PCR reactions and post PCR analysis.
  • Data interpretation and reporting of test results.
  • Aid in maintaining lab space, lab equipment, supplies and inventory.
  • Maintain necessary records and laboratory reports and other related duties assigned by the Faculty Section Head and Laboratory Supervisor.
  • Assist in research projects including planning & conducting experiments, analyzing data and reporting results.
  • Participate in required proficiency tests.
  • Train and coach new employees and visiting students/scholars.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent and 2 years of related experience.

Qualifications

  • Knowledge and skills of molecular biology, including: nucleic acid extraction; PCR; real-time PCR; digital PCR; gel electrophoresis and Sanger sequencing analysis.
  • The ability to work in a team setting and provide general assistance to other personnel is important.

Physical Demands

Extended periods of sitting conducting bench work and some light lifting.
