Molding Technician I

Responsibilities

• Observes continuous operation of automatic injection molding machines to ensure product specifications are met and detects jams or malfunctions.
• Makes adjustments as necessary and measures/visually inspects products for surface and dimension defects.
• Sets up, operates, processes acceptable quality first piece parts and tends plastic injection molding machines.
• Regulates pressure, temperature, and speed and feed rates, and sets cycle times for machines.
• Installs molds into machines or presses according to production schedule work order specifications.
• Reads Quality Work Instructions (QWI) for any special items needed.
• Cleans grease and fingerprints from machines after every mold change.
• Mixes and measures compounds, or weighs premixed compounds; then loads them into machine hoppers.
• Verifies machine process and records temperatures, pressures, and press-cycle times, keeping records on process sheets.
• Reads specifications, blueprints, and work orders to determine setups, temperatures, and time settings required to mold plastic materials, and plans production sequences.
• Preserves then removes molds from machines after production runs are finished and places them in noted locations.
• Inventories and records quantities of materials and finished products; requisitions additional supplies as necessary.
• Operates hoists to position molds, cleans inner surfaces of molds following standard procedures, and moves specified molds to work stations.
• Performs preventive maintenance work on injection machines, molds, and auxiliary equipment.
• Maintains inventories of materials.
• Startups and shuts downs presses and plants.
• Learns numerous grades and colors of plastic materials.
• Removes and weighs scrap gaylords when full.
• Assists with relieving breaks for production technicians if needed.
• Maintains a clean and orderly work area, including but not limited to: mold rooms, resin room, warehouse resin and supply storage.
• Communicates with co-workers, management, customers, vendors, and others in a courteous, respectful, and professional manner.
• Conforms with and abides by all regulations, policies, work procedures, and instructions.
• Conforms to all safety rules and uses all appropriate safety equipment.
