Molding Technician

About the Role

To achieve optimum process operating conditions for the manufacture of sand filters and other blow molded products. This position is 2nd shift, 2:45pm - 11:00pm.

Responsibilities

• Direct all technical aspects of the blow molding processes used to produce sand filters, including blow mold setup and changeovers, troubleshooting processes, secondary equipment setup, and quality verification.
• Perform mold, tooling, and color changes in accordance with standardized procedures. Make recommendations to improve changeover effectiveness (e.g., quick mold change, safety improvements, better tools).
• Ensure all machines operate at standard cycle times and efficiencies while producing quality parts. Make adjustments as needed and notify supervisors when standards cannot be met.
• Ensure material grinders operate properly and are cleaned thoroughly during color changes. Oversee weekly emptying of dust collection bags and cleaning of fines filters for vacuum systems.
• Ensure materials are blended to proper ratios per the Bill of Material and monitor the blending process for compliance.
• Troubleshoot machine breakdowns (molding machines, secondary equipment, material handling equipment, grinders) and obtain support (maintenance, engineering) to minimize downtime.
• Perform Total Productive Maintenance on assigned equipment and assist the Maintenance Department with Preventive Maintenance as needed.
• Assist in training blow molding operators and other personnel on quality, safety, operations, policies, and procedures.
• Monitor setup tools and supplies, notifying supervisors when replenishment is needed.
• Support all Kaizen activities and processes, serving on Kaizen teams and implementing methodologies.
• Develop and maintain good working relations with other departments, vendors, and personnel interacting with the department.
• Maintain good housekeeping and adhere to all company policies and procedures.
• Perform other duties as assigned by the Shift Leader or management.

Requirements

• Good leadership skills and ability to work as a self-starter.
• Strong math and communication skills, with the ability to train others.
• Reliable attendance record.

Qualifications

• Associates degree or vocational certification in Industrial Technology, Plastics Processing, or a related field preferred.
• Experience in plastics processing, blow molding, injection molding, and computer applications is highly desired.

Physical Requirements

• Capable of lifting up to 50 lbs.
• Requires walking, lifting, climbing, and the ability to operate power and hand tools.

Work Environment

Typical manufacturing environment with noise (earplugs required), dust, moving machinery, forklift traffic, and pedestrian activity. Safety glasses must be worn on the plant floor.
