Molding Process Engineer

As a Process Engineer, you will provide engineering support and optimization improvements on established equipment, including vision systems, auxiliary equipment, automation, robots, end-of-arm tooling, packaging, plastic injection molding, assembly, and other processing systems for an injection molding manufacturer.
Responsibilities
- Develop programs and/or methods to optimize productivity and reduce cycle time, manufacturing losses, and overall costs.
- Assure that the process adheres to ISO standards.
- Continuously improve existing processes using design of experiments and other methods to increase efficiencies.
- Support the product development process by assisting program teams to ensure successful product launches.
- Mold validation process set-up, troubleshooting, and process monitoring.
- Quote, procure, modify, and validate both new and existing production mold tooling.
- Resolve technical tooling and process problems associated with both new and old tooling.
- Assist in the selection of tooling vendors.
- Direct vendor interface, coordinate in-process changes, and approve tooling upon completion.
- Work with vendors to perform new or modified component validations; determine requirements and direct tooling upgrades.
- Monitor all molding operations, tracking efficiency and potential issues.
- Use a scientific approach to problem-solving machine issues.
- Track statistical data and utilize SPC to continuously monitor and improve molding operations efficiency.
- Participate in variation, scrap, and cost reduction opportunities.
- Work as a cross-functional team member with involvement in processes, designs, troubleshooting, project management, and cost analysis.
- Assist in the collection of information, selection, and implementation of new molding projects.
- Create procedures, routings, and BOMs.
- Assist with corrective actions to resolve non-conformances as root causes are identified.
- Optimize manufacturing practices.
- Improve the workforce by training Process Technicians and Mold Technicians on efficient machine operation.
- Other projects and tasks as assigned.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering or related field preferred.
- 4+ years of experience in a manufacturing environment (Silicone injection molding experience preferred).
- Working knowledge of manufacturing technologies with emphasis on injection molding, SPC, DOE, and GD & T.
- Detailed knowledge of mold and part design.
- Proficiency with MS Office software suites (Word, Excel, Outlook, etc.).
- Excellent communication and record-keeping skills.
