Mold Setter/Die Setter

Performs all mold set-up functions for production within the department, including setting molds in injection plastic machines, processing set-ups, testing dials and controls, troubleshooting mold operations, and performing minor mold maintenance and repair. Assists foreman with machine and equipment-related problems and fills in for foreman as directed.

Responsibilities

• Cleans mold mounting surfaces before setting mold.
• Sets up and removes molds in the injection molding process.
• Lines up mold and sprue bushing in preparation of mounting the mold in the press.
• Transports mold to and from press using a tow motor or crane.
• Utilizes hazardous energy control procedures.
• Performs all auxiliary set-up duties, including connections with water lines, airlines, thermolators, hoses, hydraulic lines, cores, and knock-out plates.
• Starts production, processes setups, adjusts press, and performs start-ups on presses as directed.
• Troubleshoots and handles problems with molds and presses.
• Assists foremen with machine and equipment problems.
• Cleans and lubricates mold surfaces before and after production.
• Fills in for foremen as directed pertaining to machine scheduling and shift production.
• Updates shop order, process documentation, and work instructions as required.
• Performs general service activities when needed.
• Repairs molds and disassembles molds following all safety precautions and overhead hoist safely.
• Communicates specific job requirements to following shift personnel.
• Performs other duties as assigned and directed.

Requirements

• High school education or higher.
• Ability to read, write, follow verbal and written instructions, and measure accurately.
• At least 2 years of experience in the set-up of molds on plastic injection machines or equivalent experience, including driving a tow motor.
• Current valid Driver’s License.
• Experience with the processing operation of molding equipment and robots.
• Moderate independent judgment; performs duties with moderate supervision.

• Focuses on quality and executes job functions correctly the first time in a timely manner.

Physical Exertion

• Routinely lifts 25-75 lbs.
• On feet most of the shift; bends, twists, stoops, walks, lifts, and extensively uses hands, wrists, shoulders, legs, waist, and back.
• Uses hand/eye coordination to set/move molds, drive tow motor, and fill hoppers.
• Works with and around heat and dust.
• Able to climb and work comfortably at heights, in tight places, and in uncomfortable positions.
• Exerts enough pressure to securely tighten mold bolts, connections, and hook-ups.

• Ratchets, knives, screwdrivers, hammers, wrenches, pry bars, molds cans/drums, mixing tumblers, parts scales, staple machines, mills, bolts, clippers, pliers, sanders, funnels, channel locks, overhead cranes, markers, pencils, conveyor ramps, automatic floor sweepers, brushes, vacuum loaders, tow motors, tape machines, band machines, truck docks, tags, locks, absorbents, rags, gloves, dust masks, glasses/goggles, and ladders.

Schedule

Positions are available on all three shifts.

Hourly bargaining unit non-exempt. This is an “at-will” position.
