Mohs Technician
About the role
Tareen Dermatology is expanding into Fargo, North Dakota and seeking a skilled and detail-oriented Mohs Technician to support our Mohs micrographic surgery program. This opportunity offers the chance to be part of a new clinic launch, work closely with Mohs surgeons and the pathology team, and contribute to providing exceptional skin cancer care to patients throughout the region.
Responsibilities
- Accurately prepare histologic slides from tissue sections for microscopic examination and diagnosis by a Pathologist or Mohs Surgeon.
- Identify, prepare, cut, stain, and preserve specimen integrity for reliable diagnosis.
- Utilize high-level technical skills for testing methods and troubleshooting.
- Maintain laboratory equipment and inventory.
- Prepare special stains, including immunohistochemistry.
- Perform dermatology tissue dissection according to grossing procedures.
- Perform tissue manipulation and orientation mapping on Mohs specimens with high accuracy.
- Ensure competency in all pre-analytic, analytic, and post-analytical phases of histology and Mohs surgery.
- Perform grossing/dissection of skin and Mohs specimens using knowledge of tissue type and structure.
- Use equipment and instruments, including microscopes, H&E Linear Stainer, cryostats, and other lab equipment.
- Receive and accession specimens by labeling Mohs map and Mohs log.
- Prepare Mohs sections for immediate examination according to procedure.
- Perform solution preparation with accuracy and proper labeling.
- Maintain accurate documentation in compliance with policies, procedures, and regulations.
- Monitor quality control and proper maintenance of logs, equipment, and instruments.
- Comply with HIPAA Regulations and OSHA rules, safety standards, and regulations.
- All other duties as assigned.
Requirements
- Associate or Bachelor’s Degree.
- CLIA requires a minimum of 60 semester hours, with 24 hours in science (including at least 6 hours of chemistry, 6 hours of biology, and 12 additional hours in biology, chemistry, or medical laboratory technology).
- Previous medical dermatology, laboratory, and Mohs experience preferred.

Schedule
Monday – Friday, daytime hours. No evenings, weekends, or holidays. Will require travel to Grand Forks, ND.
Work Environment
This role operates in clinic and lab settings.
Physical Demands
- Regularly required to stand, walk, sit, use hands, reach with hands and arms, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, talk, hear, and smell.
- Must be able to sit for 90% of the workday.
- Must be able to lift or move up to 10 pounds.
- Requires close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
