About the role

Radiance Technologies, an employee-owned company supporting Department of War (DoW) modeling, simulation, and analysis (MS&A) of defensive systems, is seeking a Modeling, Simulation, and Analysis Engineer. The candidate will use tools developed in C++, Python, and the Advanced Framework for Simulation, Integration, and Modeling (AFSIM) environment to support the design, development, and testing of Directed Energy (DE) weapon systems, including High Energy Laser (HEL) and High Power Microwave (HPM) systems for United States DoW customers.

Activities include analysis and trade studies of subsystem components, performance and effectiveness assessments of multiple systems, recommendations for system employment, and MS&A support for live-fire tests of prototype or fielded systems. The role involves coordination across multiple teams for analysis planning, execution, and regular reporting of results to senior management and DoW customers.

Responsibilities

  • Support the design, development, and testing of Directed Energy weapon systems using C++, Python, and AFSIM.
  • Conduct analysis and trade studies of individual subsystem components.
  • Assess the performance and effectiveness of multiple systems.
  • Provide recommendations for the employment of multiple systems.
  • Support MS&A activities for live-fire tests of prototype or fielded systems.
  • Coordinate across teams for analysis planning, execution, and reporting of results.
  • Deliver emerging and final results to senior management and DoW customers.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering, Software Engineering, Physics, Operations Research, Statistics, Mathematics, Computer Science, Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or another relevant technical field.
  • Active DoD Secret Clearance.
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in MS&A of DoW systems.
  • Experience with the setup and execution of complex mission-level simulations in AFSIM.
  • Experience analyzing simulation data using techniques from science, engineering, mathematics, statistics, or operations research (e.g., hypothesis testing, ANOVA, linear/non-linear regression, response surface methodology).
  • Experience using modeling techniques such as design of experiments (DoE), Monte Carlo simulation, or Artificial Intelligence/Machine Learning (AI/ML), including reinforcement learning and neural networks, especially in Deep Reinforcement Learning.
  • Experience using simulation frameworks in high-performance computing (HPC) systems.
  • Proficiency in both Windows and Linux operating system environments.

Qualifications

  • Master’s or Doctoral Degree in Electrical Engineering, Software Engineering, Physics, Operations Research, Statistics, Mathematics, Computer Science, Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or another relevant technical field.
  • Experience in MS&A of Directed Energy weapon systems.
  • Experience with laser beam propagation modeling tools, such as HELCoMES or SHaRE.
  • Experience with weapon system battle management and layered defense.
  • Experience in the verification and validation (V&V) of MS&A tools.
  • Experience integrating multiple MS&A tools in a networked environment.
  • Experience developing MS&A models and analysis tools in C++ and Python.
  • Experience with object-oriented design and development.
  • Experience with deterministic or stochastic modeling, optimization, or heuristic approaches such as genetic algorithms or simulated annealing.
  • Familiarity with the physics of electro-optical passive or laser systems.
  • Active DoD Top Secret Clearance including Sensitive Compartmented Information.
