Modeler I, GIS Focus, Progression
About the role
The Modeler I supports the data administration, configuration, testing, and distribution of geospatial and electrical grid models core to Electric Delivery (ED) and critical to Ops Technology & Innovation (OT&I) functions. Interpret maps and/or drawings and make and reconcile model changes in Tampa Electric’s GIS, ADMS, EMS and associated systems as instructed by senior level team members. Work closely with technical team members to deliver solutions that meet the current and future objectives of ED, in alignment with company strategies and business plans. Expected to demonstrate great curiosity in pursuit of information and training that will continue their education and acclimate them to the company.
Responsibilities
- Maintains the integrity and accuracy of data that supports business operations, as well as the safety and reliability of the electrical grid.
- Performs basic configurations and tests of geospatial (GIS) and electrical (ADMS or EMS) models to help coordinate the delivery of energy to Tampa Electric’s customers.
- Affords assistance in the design, development, and testing of ad-hoc data queries, extracts, reports, and visual displays to support specific business needs of end users.
- Performs basic connectivity model validation and modifications to ensure accurate and consistent data across supported applications (i.e., GIS, ADMS, EMS).
- Collects, analyzes, reviews, documents, and communicates business needs and requirements to IT programmers, Business Consultants, ADMS Engineers, and other technical team members.
- Supports small, non-complex projects including the evaluation of current processes, automation, and software applications with a focus on providing technological solutions in alignment with business and strategic plans.
Qualifications
- Education: High school diploma or equivalent.
- Experience: 2 years of experience related to the Duties & Responsibilities of this position, working with/supporting distribution or transmission electrical system models.
- Knowledge/Skills/Abilities: Proficient in development fundamentals, proficient in data collection and analysis, knowledge of power flow across electrical grid transmission and distribution devices and systems, knowledge of electrical distribution circuit maps and hierarchy of electrical distribution circuits, ability to read maps and schematics for distribution, substation, and transmission, knowledge of electrical transmission or distribution modeling practices, proficient in writing queries and reports with knowledge of related technical applications, ability to provide end-user support and justify decisions to clients, knowledge of GIS systems and workflows, knowledge of work management systems and workflows, ability to assess processes and provide GIS, ADMS, or EMS system solutions, proficiency in any of the following technical applications: GE ADMS, Model Manager, Substation Editor, FG Display Builder, GE EMS, E-Terra Source, G/Technology, G Connect, ArcGIS Suite, Esri Suite, Python, Arcade, SQL, MicroStation, AutoCAD (3D), Way 2, FME, Snowflake, Azure DevOps, or Power BI, Access, Notepad++, SAP, Reporting Writing Tool, or Visual Studios.
Benefits
This position primarily (~95% of time) works in a professional office environment. Occasionally (~5% of time) required to be outside “in the field” for site-meetings or projects meetings. Some travel may be required. Occasional unplanned and planned overtime is required, particularly during storm season.
Pay
Commensurate with experience.
