GIS Architect
Job Summary
Our client, a leading organization in the energy and utilities industry, is seeking a GIS Architect to join their team. This role is responsible for defining and governing the enterprise geospatial architecture that supports utility operations, asset management, engineering, planning, and digital transformation initiatives.
Core Responsibilities
- Define and maintain the enterprise GIS architecture vision, roadmap, and technology standards aligned with business objectives
- Lead the architecture, implementation, and modernization of Esri enterprise GIS platforms, including ArcGIS Enterprise, ArcGIS Online, and Utility Network
- Design scalable, secure, and highly available GIS environments utilizing cloud, on-premises, and hybrid architectures
- Establish GIS governance, architecture standards, and technical best practices across the organization
- Design geospatial solutions supporting utility asset lifecycle management, infrastructure planning, and network modeling
- Provide architectural leadership for GIS initiatives supporting electric, gas, water, wastewater, and renewable energy operations
- Ensure accurate representation of network connectivity, asset relationships, and operational workflows within GIS platforms
- Architect integrations between GIS and enterprise systems including SAP, IBM Maximo, Oracle Utilities, SCADA, OMS, ADMS, EAM, work management systems, and enterprise analytics platforms
- Develop enterprise integration strategies, APIs, and data exchange frameworks to support digital transformation initiatives
- Define enterprise geospatial data models, governance standards, metadata strategies, and data lifecycle management processes
- Oversee geospatial database architecture, performance optimization, and compliance with security and regulatory requirements
- Evaluate emerging GIS and utility technologies while providing architectural leadership and technical mentorship to development and engineering teams
- Lead architecture efforts for enterprise GIS implementations, upgrades, and modernization programs
- Develop solution documentation, architecture diagrams, technical standards, and long-term technology roadmaps
Required Skills/Experience
- Bachelor's degree in GIS, Geography, Engineering, Computer Science, Information Systems, Geomatics, or a related field
- 8+ years of GIS experience, including enterprise GIS implementations within utility environments
- 3+ years of architecture, solution design, or technical leadership experience
- Extensive experience with: ArcGIS Enterprise, ArcGIS Pro, ArcGIS Online, Esri Utility Network, Enterprise Geodatabases
- Experience integrating GIS platforms with enterprise utility systems
- Strong knowledge of cloud architecture, APIs, systems integration, enterprise data management, and geospatial database design
- Experience designing scalable enterprise applications and data platforms
Preferred Skills/Experience
- Experience supporting electric, gas, water, wastewater, or renewable energy organizations
- Strong understanding of utility operations, asset management, and operational business processes
- Experience with: Microsoft Azure, Amazon Web Services (AWS), Kubernetes, SQL Server, Oracle, PostgreSQL, FME, Power BI, Esri Experience Builder, GISP, Esri Enterprise Administration, or Esri Utility Network certifications
- ToGAF, Azure Solutions Architect, or similar enterprise architecture certifications
- Experience supporting regulated or compliance-driven utility organizations

Compensation & Benefits: Pay Range: The approximate pay range for this position is between $70.00 and $100.00. Please note that the pay range provided is a good faith estimate. Final compensation may vary based on factors including but not limited to background, knowledge, skills, and location.
