Model Risk Governance Analyst

Location: On site in Charlotte, NC or Huntsville, AL

About the role

At First Horizon, the Model Risk Governance Analyst is a member of a key strategic team responsible for performing independent model risk oversight activities, including model identification, classification, inventory management, validation, review, issue remediation testing, reporting, and related activities. The associate will assist the department manager in managing all governance activities relating to model risk including risk assessment, inventory maintenance, reporting, high-level reviews of models for regulatory and policy compliance, and basic quantitative testing of model controls.

Responsibilities

• Maintains a database of models and their various attributes used throughout the Bank.
• Prepares a risk assessment of all models and reviews and updates the assessment at least annually.
• Prepares reports of model risk activity and metrics for submission to various stakeholders including senior executives, risk committees, Internal Audit, and external state and federal regulators.
• Maintains and updates the validation/review schedule.
• Performs a high-level governance review of all models to determine their compliance with regulatory guidance and internal policy requirements.
• Tracks and evaluates ongoing performance monitoring on a quarterly basis including evaluation of performance threshold breaches.
• Performs quantitative testing of various model components under the guidance of senior analysts.
• Other duties as assigned.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Mathematics, Statistics, Economics, Finance, Data Science, or other quantitative field.
• Proficiency in managing databases including report design.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office particularly Access, Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.
• Understanding of basic risk assessment methods, particularly assessing inherent and residual risk.

Preferences

• Two (2) years’ experience in a quantitative field combined with experience with risk governance and assessment as found in banking and financial services.

• Understanding of basic statistical and predictive modeling concepts.
• Understanding of risk governance and risk assessment techniques.
• Ability to manage multiple tasks and work effectively under pressure in a rapidly changing environment.
• Attention to detail, initiative, and ability to work under tight deadlines.
• Excellent written and oral communication skills, especially clearly explaining quantitative concepts to non-quantitative audiences.
• Motivated, organized, and team oriented.
• Strong business acumen with the ability to communicate with both business and Information Technology (IT) leaders.
