About the role
The Model & Applications team develops and maintains first-principles mathematical models for simulating chemical process equipment. You will work on models that run in various modes including steady-state, dynamic, flow-driven, and pressure-driven simulation.
Responsibilities
- Develop, maintain, and improve first-principles mathematical models for simulating chemical process equipment in both steady-state and dynamic modes
- Implement model equations within a collaborative environment using standard Agile software development practices including version control, pull requests, and automated testing
- Diagnose and resolve complex simulation issues escalated from technical support, applying subject matter expertise to identify root causes
- Collaborate within multidisciplinary squads alongside software developers, thermodynamicists, and solver/optimization engineers to deliver new simulation capabilities
Requirements
- B.S., M.S., or Ph.D. in Chemical Engineering (or equivalent demonstrated experience in process modeling)
- Ability to derive and formulate systems of equations from first principles (mass, energy, and momentum balances)
- Strong foundation in transport phenomena and thermodynamics
- Familiarity with equation-oriented or simultaneous-equation solving approaches
Desired Skills And Competencies
- Experience with process simulation platforms (AVEVA, Aspen, etc.) and understanding solver convergence behavior
- Programming (Python, C++, C#, or similar) with experience working in a shared codebase using version control (e.g., Git)
- Breadth across multiple process domains (separations, reaction systems, heat exchange, pressure networks) with the ability to develop expertise in unfamiliar areas
- Ability to communicate complex mathematical and engineering concepts clearly to cross-functional stakeholders including developers, product managers, and customers
- A record of initiative and independent problem-solving: research contributions, open-source development, or self-directed technical projects
Benefits
USA Benefits include: Flex work hours, 20 days PTO rising to 25 with service, three paid volunteering days, primary and secondary parental leave, well-being support, medical, dental, vision, and 401K. Specific benefits vary by country, but our packages are similarly comprehensive.
