About the role

You will be part of a dynamic, passionate team of mentors working directly with participants who have recently left EMPath’s emergency shelter programs. The Mobility Mentor supports their journey to self-sufficiency and stable housing, going beyond case management as the primary point of contact and part of a team co-investing with participants using Mobility Mentoring®—an internationally recognized economic coaching approach centered on goal-setting.

Responsibilities

  • Routinely assist participants with housing placement opportunities.
  • Provide one-to-one Mobility Mentoring coaching on goals related to upward economic mobility, including housing, budgeting, career and education, child care, and health care.
  • Conduct detailed assessments to identify each family’s strengths and needs, establish individual mobility goals, and monitor and document progress on individualized plans.
  • Maintain emotional intelligence, reliability, and flexibility to navigate complex issues with sound reasoning.
  • Communicate effectively with participants and external stakeholders.
  • Adhere to Massachusetts Executive Office of Housing and Livable Communities (HLC) contractual requirements.
  • Complete weekly and accurate service documentation; maintain data management records and assist with program reporting.
  • Collaborate with participants to resolve challenges and make referrals to EMPath specialists for more intensive support.
  • Utilize a trauma-informed and trust-centered coaching strategy.
  • Maintain resourcefulness and ensure referrals are made in collaboration with internal and external resources.
  • Follow all EMPath and HLC policies and procedures, including emergency preparedness and fitness of habitability.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Bilingual speakers in Spanish preferred.
  • Bachelor’s degree preferred.
  • 1–3 years of experience in case management, direct homeless services, or life skills coaching.
  • Basic understanding of coaching, motivational interviewing, and mentoring practices.
  • Basic knowledge of case management principles and community resources.
  • Cultural competency and ability to establish effective professional relationships with a diverse group of clients.
  • Knowledge of homelessness, housing subsidies, and other housing issues.
  • Strong mediation, crisis intervention, negotiation, verbal, and written communication skills.
  • Ability to handle a variety of assignments and flexibility to work some evenings if necessary.
  • Strong organizational skills and high attention to detail.
  • Excellent Microsoft Office skills.
  • 25% local travel; a driver's license and access to a reliable vehicle are required. EMPath reimburses for work-related mileage.

Pay

$26.27 to $27.78 per hour, based on education, experience, and language skills.

Schedule

  • 36-hour, 4-day work week (4 days in-office at 253 River Street, Mattapan, MA).
  • Some evenings and weekends may be required.
  • 25% local travel to participants in scattered sites.
