About the role

This is a dedicated on-site position; we do not provide emergency roadside repairs. The Mobile Trailer Technician II will perform certified DOT inspections, preventative maintenance inspections, light repairs, and other duties such as trailer brakes, air lines, auxiliary pumps, engines, liftgates, brake chambers, welding, fabrication, replacement of panels, body, and framework. Work is performed at the customer's site. The Technician II can perform more advanced repairs under the supervision of a Sr Mobile Trailer Technician or higher and assists with repairs while continuing to learn additional advanced mechanical skills.

Responsibilities

  • Perform preventive maintenance, repairs, DOT inspections, and follow-up repairs on various trailers and equipment with little or no supervision.
  • Document work performed, parts used, and findings on Repair Orders using a company-issued iOS device and our proprietary TRAIT application.
  • Perform minor adjustments and repairs on trailers and systems, including trailer brakes, air lines, auxiliary pumps, engines, liftgates, and brake chambers.
  • Accurately complete DOT forms and other documentation in a timely fashion.
  • Diagnose and troubleshoot electrical components.
  • Follow and comply with safe operating practices and procedures.
  • Manage parts inventory and equipment on a company-issued service truck and perform periodic reconciliation.
  • Maintain and operate a company-issued service vehicle, including safety checks and pre-/post-trip inspections.
  • Assess client needs, provide information or assistance, and resolve problems or satisfy expectations.
  • Manage concurrent tasks, prioritize work-related activities, and allocate time effectively.
  • Act with integrity, demonstrate honesty, and maintain confidentiality.
  • Perform scheduled preventative maintenance, DOT inspections, and follow-up repairs in a mobile/field environment.
  • Respond to call center-dispatched unscheduled service and maintenance requests.
  • Use hand tools, precision instruments, trailer tools, welding equipment, and jacks.
  • Work with a high degree of independence and manage your daily schedule.
  • Maintain high productivity and work within or close to Standard Repair Times.
  • Obtain parts from approved local and national vendors as necessary.
  • Communicate with management and support teams via email or phone for approvals, purchase orders, or repair notes.
  • Perform all work in compliance with organizational safety, health, and environmental policies, and federal regulations (OSHA, EPA, DOT).
  • Participate in and complete all company-required safety training.
  • Establish and maintain good working relationships with customers and vendors.
  • Maintain the company-issued service truck, conduct safety checks, and perform daily pre/post-trip inspections.
  • Adhere to company policies, processes, and procedures.
  • Diagnose, adjust, and repair various trailer equipment and systems, including welding, fabrication, and replacement of panels, body, and framework.
  • Identify problems, determine accuracy and relevance of information, and use sound judgment to evaluate alternatives.
  • Inspect, test, and diagnose defective equipment using test instruments such as handheld computers and pressure gauges.
  • Assist Mobile Trailer Technician I with diagnostics.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma/GED and 3 years' experience in a related field (Trailers). Alternatively, any level of degree/certification beyond a HS diploma/GED in a related discipline or 5 years' experience in a related field.
  • Possess and supply a set of hand tools necessary to perform required job duties.
  • OEM training and certifications are preferred.
  • Must be able to successfully complete and pass a DOT-regulated pre-employment background screening and DOT physical prior to employment. A current and valid DOT medical card with more than four months remaining may be submitted in lieu of a DOT physical.
  • Due to interstate commerce regulations, candidates must be at least 21 years or older.
  • Valid driver’s license required; must be able to obtain and maintain a Driver Qualification File.
  • Class CDL C License required or obtained within 18 months.

Qualifications

  • ASE T8 (PMI) certification (preferred).
  • ASE 608/609, T4 (Brakes), T5 (Suspension), T6 (Electrical and Electronic Systems), and T7 (HVAC) certifications (preferred).

Skills

  • Knowledge of trailer parts and systems, including their designs, uses, repair, and maintenance.
  • Ability to understand and apply new information for problem-solving and decision-making.
  • Physical ability to lift, bend, climb, stand, and walk for long periods; perform moderately heavy labor.
  • Stamina to exert oneself physically over long periods without tiring.
  • Ability to judge distances and communicate information effectively in a clear and organized manner.

  • Ability to determine the appropriate tools and equipment needed for tasks.

Pay

Hourly pay rate is in the range of $29.42 - $44.13/hour. The hourly base rate may vary within this range based on factors such as location and the candidate's knowledge, skills, and abilities. The position may also be eligible for additional compensation, including commission and/or incentive programs.
