About the role
The successful candidate will be responsible for diagnosing, repairing, maintaining, and overhauling heavy-duty diesel-powered mobile equipment. This role requires a combination of mechanical skills, safety awareness, and adherence to regulatory standards.
Responsibilities
- Diagnose and troubleshoot mechanical, hydraulic, and electrical system failures on diesel-powered heavy equipment.
- Perform scheduled preventative maintenance, including oil and filter services, lubrication, and brake and driveline inspections.
- Read and interpret technical manuals, schematics, and wiring diagrams to ensure accurate repairs.
- Use hand and power tools, pressure and electrical test equipment to verify equipment performance and diagnose faults.
- Conduct pre-shift safety inspections in accordance with MSHA and company guidelines to ensure operational readiness.
- Maintain and manage parts inventories; order supplies in a timely manner to minimize downtime.
- Operate haul trucks and loaders as needed to support repair and maintenance activities safely.
- Mentor and train junior technicians or less-experienced mechanics as part of skills development.
- Collaborate with shop supervisors to prioritize work orders and organize field maintenance tasks.
- Ensure all repair documentation and inspection reports are completed accurately and submitted on time.
Qualifications
- Vocational or Technical Training
- 2+ years of related Mobile Equipment Maintenance experience, preferred CAT maintenance preferred
- Welding and metalworking skills
- Mechanical analysis

Physical Requirements
- Must be able to lift and carry up to 50 lbs.
- Required to bend, stoop, climb, and reach.
- Must be able to maintain three points of contact when climbing on/off machinery or on ladders.
- Strong hand-eye-foot coordination is essential for operating hand/foot controls.
- Good depth perception with or without seeing aid for distances up to 150 feet.
- Work in all weather conditions, cold, wet, dry and dusty.
- Must be able to work in areas where noise levels are up to 85 dBs.
