Responsibilities
- Operate heavy equipment for maintenance activities, including but not limited to backhoes, front end loaders, dump trucks, hot mix pavers, motor graders, and track hoes.
- Perform duties as directed, such as shoveling asphalt, digging footings for setting concrete forms, placing traffic control devices, delivering/loading/unloading materials and/or equipment, flagging traffic, paving operations, milling, placing large culverts, operating power and/or hand tools.
- Perform incidental repair and construction tasks such as installation of guardrail, fencing, pipe, catch basins, and drainage structures.
- Perform minor repairs and preventative maintenance in accordance with operator’s manual and manufacturer recommendations to keep equipment operating efficiently and safely.
- Respond to call-outs after normal working hours in all types of weather conditions, including removing falling trees from the roadway, applying deicing materials, responding to traffic accidents, and draining water from the roadway.
Position-Specific Details
- Appointment Type: This position may be filled as a probational appointment or promotion.
- Career Progression: This position may be filled as Mobile Equipment Operator 1, Mobile Equipment Operator 2, or Mobile Equipment Operator 1-Heavy, based on qualifications and agency needs.
- Licensing Requirements:
- Mobile Equipment Operator 1 positions are required to have a Class “D” Chauffeurs License before being made permanent.
- Mobile Equipment Operator 2 and 1/Heavy positions are required to have a Class "A" Commercial Driver's License upon appointment.
Pay
- Mobile Equipment Operator 1: $16.06/hourly. Receives Premium Pay in the amount of $1.00/hour for all hours worked and a 10% base pay increase will be granted upon attainment of permanent status.
- Mobile Equipment Operator 2: $17.18/hourly. Receives Premium Pay in the amount of $1.00/hour for all hours worked, and a 10% base pay increase will be granted upon attainment of permanent status.
- Mobile Equipment Operator 1/Heavy: $21.05/hourly.
