This position is located in DISTRICT 05 - UNIT 721, Rayville, Richland Parish, and reports directly to a Highway Foreman 2. The incumbent must be self-motivated, able to perform duties with minimal supervision, and interpret unforeseen conditions as they arise.

Responsibilities

• Operates various types of heavy equipment for road/bridge construction and maintenance.
• Makes minor repairs to equipment as needed.
• Performs preventative maintenance, such as oil changes.
• Performs other duties as directed, including shoveling asphalt, digging footings for setting concrete forms, placing traffic control devices, delivering, loading and unloading materials and/or equipment, flagging traffic, operating power and/or hand tools, etc.
• Attends required training in accordance with the Department’s Structured Training Program.
• Obtains/maintains CDL (required for MEO 2 and MEO 1 - Heavy only) and reports CDL revocation to appropriate personnel.
• May perform incidental repair and construction tasks such as bridge repair, drainage structure repair, installation of guardrail, fencing, fender systems, and cabling at moveable bridges and other structures.

Qualifications

No experience or training is required.

Skills

• Ability to operate heavy equipment.
• Basic mechanical skills for minor repairs and maintenance.
• Self-motivation and ability to work with minimal supervision.
• Willingness to participate in training and continuing education programs.

Pay

• MEO-1: $16.06/hourly + $1.00/hour Premium Pay + 10% base pay increase upon attainment of permanent status.
• MEO-2: $17.18/hourly + $1.00/hour Premium Pay + 10% base pay increase upon attainment of permanent status.
• MEO-1/HEAVY: $21.05/hourly.
