Mobile Diesel/Trailer Technician

About the Role

We are hiring a Mobile Diesel/Trailer Technician in Laredo, TX to perform preventative maintenance, inspections, diagnostic tests, and repairs on trucks and trailers from manufacturers including Peterbilt, Kenworth, Freightliner, Utility, and Thermo King. This role covers all general and complex repairs in a shop environment.

Responsibilities

• Perform scheduled and non-routine repairs to company/contractor fleet to meet DOT standards
• Diesel engine diagnostics and repair
• Suspension and steering systems diagnostics and repair
• Air and hydraulic braking systems diagnostics and repair
• Electrical and lighting diagnostics and repair
• Repair complex cooling systems
• Repair or replace Auxiliary Power Units
• Trailer body repairs
• ThermoKing and Carrier refrigeration repairs
• Retrofit refrigeration units
• Preventative maintenance on tractor-trailer and trailer repairs
• Changing oil, checking batteries, and lubricating equipment and machinery
• Tire replacements and repairs
• Ordering parts and maintaining inventory
• Maintain a clean and neat shop
• Additional duties and responsibilities as assigned

Requirements

• Basic tool set for job functions
• 5+ years of general heavy-duty diesel mechanic experience
• 5+ years of Trailer Mechanic experience
• 5+ years of Trailer Body experience
• 5+ years of ThermoKing/Carrier refrigeration repair experience
• 3+ years of vendor/client relations
• 3+ years of inventory experience
• Working knowledge of telematics systems and diagnostic software
• Microsoft Office experience
• Ability to read and understand operating manuals, service manuals, and written instructions
• Valid Class C driver’s license
• Ability to clearly read, write, and speak English
• Basic math calculations

Preferred Qualifications

• Cummins or Detroit Certifications
• Commercial Inspection Certification

Skills and Abilities

• Diesel engine diagnosis and repair
• Preventative maintenance on truck/trailer
• Wheel seals, water pumps, A/C components, compressors
• Air and hydraulic braking systems
• APU’s
• Basic math and tool utilization
• Liner repairs, landing gear repairs, top rail repairs, side rail repairs, door post repairs, H-Frame
• Electronic diagnostics
• Mechanical repair
• Knowledge of Cummins X15 and Detroit DD15 engines

Physical Demands

• Maneuvering around, in, on, and under trucks/tight spaces to inspect and diagnose problems
• Standing, bending, squatting, kneeling, crawling, pushing, and pulling with a full range of body movements
• Using hands to handle, control, or feel objects, tools, or controls
• Climbing ladders, stairs, and platforms
• Lifting and carrying up to 50 pounds
