About the role

Cox Fleet, headquartered in Indianapolis, is the leading provider of on-site mobile maintenance and repair services nationwide for light, medium, and heavy-duty trucks and trailers. As a Mobile Diesel Technician Level II, you will perform licensed DOT inspections, preventative maintenance inspections, light and follow-up repairs, and diagnostics under the supervision of a Senior Mobile Diesel Technician. This role involves working in a mobile/field environment with a high degree of independence.

Responsibilities

  • Perform scheduled preventative maintenance (PM), DOT inspections, and follow-up repairs on light, medium, and heavy-duty vehicles.
  • Perform minor adjustments and repairs on truck equipment, including electrical/brake/cooling systems, starters/alternators, fan clutches, engine electronics, diesel steering systems, engines (gas and diesel), transmissions (manual and automatic), clutches, and differentials.
  • Diagnose, adjust, and repair various truck systems, including air conditioning, hydraulic, and electronic components.
  • Inspect, test, and listen to defective equipment to diagnose malfunctions using tools such as handheld computers and pressure gauges.
  • Road test vehicles to ensure proper functionality.
  • Identify problems, evaluate information, and use sound judgment to generate and assess alternatives.
  • Manage parts inventory and equipment on a company-issued service truck, including periodic reconciliation.
  • Maintain and operate a company-issued service vehicle, conducting safety checks and pre-/post-trip inspections.
  • Communicate effectively with clients to assess needs, provide information, and resolve problems.
  • Manage concurrent tasks, prioritizing work-related activities and time allocations.
  • Use hand tools, precision instruments, diesel tools, welding equipment, lifts, and jacks.
  • Document work performed, parts used, and findings on Repair Orders (RO) using a company-issued iOS device and the proprietary TRAIT application.
  • Complete DOT forms and other documentation accurately and in a timely manner.
  • Work with a high degree of independence while maintaining productivity and adhering to Standard Repair Times.
  • Obtain parts from approved vendors as needed for repairs.
  • Communicate with management and support teams for approvals, purchase orders, or discussions on RO findings.
  • Perform all work in compliance with safety, health, and environmental policies, including OSHA, EPA, and DOT regulations.
  • Maintain the company-issued service truck, including safety checks and daily pre/post-trip inspections.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma/GED and 3 years of experience in a related field. Alternatively, any level of degree/certification beyond a HS diploma/GED in a related discipline or 5 years of experience in a related field.
  • Possess and supply a set of hand tools necessary for job duties.
  • Obtain Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) certification T8 (PMI) within eighteen (18) months of employment.
  • Ability to pass a DOT-regulated pre-employment background screening and DOT physical prior to employment. A current and valid DOT medical card with more than four (4) months remaining may be submitted in lieu of a DOT physical.
  • Must be at least 21 years old due to interstate commerce regulations.
  • Valid driver’s license required; must be able to obtain and maintain a Driver Qualification File.

Pay

Hourly pay rate ranges from $29.38 to $44.09 per hour. The base rate may vary based on location, candidate’s knowledge, skills, and abilities. Additional compensation may include commission or incentive programs.

Schedule

Tuesday through Saturday.
