About the role

Cox Fleet, headquartered in Indianapolis, is the leading provider of on-site mobile maintenance and repair services nationwide for light, medium, and heavy-duty trucks and trailers. As a Mobile Diesel Technician II, you will perform licensed DOT inspections, preventative maintenance, advanced repairs, and diagnostics. You will serve as the lead on jobsites, providing advanced diagnostics and triage for complex repairs, and act as a consultant for customers and technicians.

Responsibilities

  • Perform scheduled preventative maintenance (PM), DOT inspections, and follow-up repairs on light, medium, and heavy-duty vehicles in a mobile/field environment.
  • Perform minor adjustments and repairs on truck equipment, including electrical/brake/cooling systems, starters/alternators, fan clutches, engine electronics, diesel steering systems, engines (gas and diesel), transmissions (manual and automatic), clutches, and differentials.
  • Diagnose, adjust, and repair truck equipment, including electrical/brake/cooling systems, starters/alternators, air conditioning systems, fan clutches, engine electronics, diesel steering systems, engines (gas and diesel), transmissions (manual and automatic), clutches, and differentials.
  • Inspect, test, and listen to defective equipment to diagnose malfunctions using test instruments such as handheld computers and pressure gauges.
  • Road test vehicles to diagnose malfunctions and ensure proper functionality.
  • Identify problems, determine accuracy and relevance of information, and use sound judgment to evaluate alternatives.
  • Independently manage parts inventory and equipment on company-issued service truck, performing periodic reconciliation.
  • Maintain and operate company-issued service vehicle, conducting safety checks and pre-/post-trip inspections.
  • Work with and listen to clients and customers to assess needs, provide information, resolve problems, and meet expectations.
  • Manage concurrent tasks, prioritizing work-related activities and time allocations effectively.
  • Use hand tools, precision instruments, diesel tools, welding equipment, lifts, and jacks.
  • Document work performed, parts used, and findings on Repair Orders (RO) using a company-issued iOS device and the proprietary TRAIT application.
  • Accurately complete DOT forms and other documentation in a timely manner.
  • Work with a high degree of independence and manage your daily schedule.
  • Maintain high productivity and work within or close to Standard Repair Times.
  • Obtain parts from approved local and national vendors as needed for repairs.
  • Communicate with management and support teams via email or phone for approvals, purchase orders, or RO findings.
  • Perform all work in compliance with organizational safety, health, and environmental policies, as well as federal regulations (OSHA, EPA, DOT).
  • Maintain company-issued service truck, conduct safety checks, and perform daily pre/post-trip inspections.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma/GED and 3 years' experience in a related field. Alternatively, any level of degree/certification beyond a HS diploma/GED in a related discipline or 5 years' experience in a related field.
  • At least 3 years of experience with refrigerated equipment.
  • Possess and supply a set of hand tools necessary for job duties.
  • OEM training and certifications are preferred.
  • Participate in and complete all company-required training.
  • Must successfully complete and pass a DOT-regulated pre-employment background screening and DOT physical prior to employment. A current and valid DOT medical card with more than four (4) months remaining may be submitted in lieu of a DOT physical.
  • Must be at least 21 years or older due to interstate operating authority commerce regulations.
  • Valid driver's license required; must be able to obtain and maintain a Driver Qualification File.

  • ASE T8 (PMI) certification
  • ASE 608/609 certification

  • ASE T4 (Brakes) certification
  • ASE T5 (Suspension) certification
  • ASE T6 (Electrical and Electronic Systems) certification

  • ASE L1 (Advanced Engine Performance Specialist)
  • ASE L2 (Electronic Diesel Engine Diagnosis Specialist) certification

Pay

Hourly pay rate ranges from $35.29 to $52.88 per hour. The base rate may vary based on location, candidate's knowledge, skills, and abilities. The position may also be eligible for additional compensation, such as commission or incentive programs.

Weekly pay schedule (paid every Friday).
