About the role

The Mobile Diesel Technician II performs licensed DOT inspections, preventative maintenance inspections, light and advanced repairs, advanced mechanical/hydraulic/electrical and electronic diagnostics, and other duties as assigned. This role serves as the lead on jobsites, heavily relied upon for advanced diagnostics and triage of complicated repairs. Functions as a consultant on the customer's behalf, ensuring compliance with company policies and achieving high-level performance metrics.

Responsibilities

  • Perform scheduled preventative maintenance ("PM"), DOT inspections, and follow-up repairs on light, medium, and heavy-duty vehicles in a mobile/field environment.
  • Perform minor adjustments and repairs on truck equipment, including electrical/brake/cooling systems, starters/alternators, fan clutches, engine electronics, diesel steering systems, engines (gas and diesel), transmissions (manual and automatic), clutches, and differentials.
  • Diagnose, adjust, and repair various truck equipment, including electrical/brake/cooling systems, air conditioning systems, starters/alternators, fan clutches, engine electronics, diesel steering systems, engines (gas and diesel), transmissions (manual and automatic), clutches, and differentials.
  • Inspect, test, and listen to defective equipment to diagnose malfunctions using test instruments such as handheld computers and pressure gauges.
  • Road test vehicles to diagnose malfunctions and ensure proper functionality.
  • Identify problems, determine accuracy and relevance of information, and use sound judgment to evaluate alternatives.
  • Independently manage parts inventory and equipment on company-issued service truck, performing periodic reconciliation.
  • Maintain and operate company-issued service vehicle, conducting safety checks and pre-/post-trip inspections.
  • Work effectively with clients and customers to assess needs, provide information, resolve problems, and meet expectations.
  • Manage concurrent tasks, prioritizing work-related activities and time allocations.
  • Use hand tools, precision instruments, diesel tools, welding equipment, lifts, and jacks.
  • Document work performed, parts used, and findings on Repair Orders (RO) using a company-issued iOS device and the proprietary TRAIT application, including uploading pictures.
  • Accurately complete DOT forms and other documentation in a timely manner.
  • Work with a high degree of independence, managing your daily schedule.
  • Maintain high productivity, working within or close to Standard Repair Times.
  • Obtain parts from approved local and national vendors as necessary for repairs.
  • Communicate with management and support teams via email or phone to obtain approvals on repair estimates, retrieve purchase order numbers, and discuss RO findings.
  • Perform all work in compliance with organizational safety, health, and environmental policies, and federal regulations, including OSHA, EPA, and DOT.
  • Maintain the company-issued service truck, conducting safety checks and daily pre/post-trip inspections.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma/GED and 3 years' experience in a related field. Alternatively, any level of degree/certification beyond a HS diploma/GED in a related discipline or 5 years' experience in a related field.
  • At least 3 years of experience with refrigerated equipment.
  • Possess and supply a set of hand tools necessary to perform required job duties.
  • OEM training and certifications are preferred.
  • Participate in and complete all company-required training.
  • Must successfully complete and pass a DOT-regulated pre-employment background screening and DOT physical prior to employment. A current and valid DOT medical card with more than four (4) months remaining may be submitted in lieu of a DOT physical.
  • Due to interstate commerce regulations, candidates must be at least 21 years or older.
  • Valid driver’s license required; must hold a valid state-of-residence driver’s license and maintain a Driver Qualification File.

Pay

Hourly pay rate ranges from USD 35.29 to 52.88 per hour. The base rate may vary based on factors such as location and the candidate’s knowledge, skills, and abilities. The position may also be eligible for additional compensation, including commission and incentive programs.

Schedule

  • Weekly pay (paid every Friday).
  • Eligible for a minimum of 6.67 hours of paid time off every month and seven paid holidays throughout the calendar year.
