Mobile Correctional Sergeant - FCC

About the role

The Missouri Department of Corrections is seeking a Corrections Sergeant for a Mobile Custody Team. This position requires extensive travel statewide and is assigned to the Farmington Correctional Center in Farmington, MO.

Responsibilities

• Supervise a Mobile Custody Team and ensure their effective operation.
• Conduct on-the-job training for Corrections Officers and monitor their performance.
• Patrol living quarters, grounds, and buildings to observe offender behaviors and ensure safety.
• Inspect for health and safety hazards and prepare reports on violations and unusual behaviors.
• Discuss minor adjustment problems with offenders and refer serious issues to appropriate staff.
• Promote rehabilitation by encouraging worthwhile activities and discouraging undesirable behaviors.
• Supervise offender movements, conduct periodic counts, and search offenders and their living quarters for contraband.
• Arbitrate disputes and settle grievances among offenders, enforcing disciplinary measures when necessary.
• Report difficult disciplinary problems to an administrative supervisor.

Requirements

• Six or more months of experience as a Corrections Officer or Probation and Parole Assistant with the Missouri Department of Corrections.
• One or more years of military service or experience in the custody of adult criminal offenders in a similar facility.
• Ability to pass a background investigation and complete Defensive Tactics and Standard First Aid/CPR training.
• Ability to complete firearms certification training.
• Valid vehicle operator’s license.

Qualifications

• Must be able to pass a background investigation administered by the Missouri Department of Corrections.
• Must be able to complete and maintain firearms certification training administered by the Missouri Department of Corrections.

Pay

The annual salary for this position includes the additional $0.75 per hour medium security differential ($1,560 annually).

Schedule

This position is subject to shift differential and overtime pay based on departmental policy.
