MO-UT Operator

About the Role

This position is responsible for the ultrasonic testing of steel plate per written work instructions and as directed by the UT Shift Coordinator. It also involves reporting all UT results, working directly with shipping, and collaborating with other members of technical services. The role includes assisting Shipping and Finishing on an as-needed basis for inspections and ID corrections.

Responsibilities

• Be familiar with the scope and limitations of each method and technique for which the individual is certified.
• Prepare written instructions (requires Level III approval for authorization).
• Set up and calibrate equipment and perform the NDT tests for which the individual is certified.
• Interpret and evaluate results with respect to applicable codes, standards, and specifications.
• Organize and report the results of nondestructive tests.
• Train and guide trainee personnel.
• Set up, operate equipment, and analyze and report results of Phased Array Supplemental Techniques.
• Maintain NDT equipment and report any deficiencies or repair needs to the UT Shift Coordinator.

Requirements

• Ability to successfully complete classroom and on-the-job training hours required for UT Level II-Limited certification exam.
• Ability to pass UT Level II-Limited certification exam within the required timeframe.
• Strong computer skills.
• Good written and verbal communication skills.
• High School diploma or equivalent (required).

Qualifications

• Background in NDT techniques (preferred).
• General understanding of Trigonometry.

Work Environment and Physical Demands

The physical demands described are representative of those required to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.

• Sitting, Standing, Walking: Sitting 1 hour at a time (average 3 hours/day); Standing 1 hour at a time (average 2 hours/day); Walking 1 hour at a time (average 7 hours/day). Alternate sitting and standing as needed throughout the 12-hour shift.
• Communication: Talking (person-to-person and on the phone); Hearing (in person and on the phone); Vision (close, midrange, and distance); Depth perception and ability to adjust focus.
• Physical Capabilities: Push, pull, lift, and/or carry items weighing 50 pounds or less approximately 240-500 feet as required for maintenance and/or calibration of equipment.
• Occasional Requirements: Balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, twist at waist level, feel temperature and textures with hands.
• Frequent Requirements: Reach at waist/desk level and below; fingering with both hands.
• Constant Requirements: Handle, grip, hold, and grasp with both hands.
• Work Conditions: Inside/outside; extreme hot and cold; wet and humid; around moving equipment; noise; mechanical, electrical, chemical, and industrial magnet hazards (while wearing safety equipment).

Schedule

Position is full-time, non-exempt, and eligible for overtime. Works 12-hour shifts with less than 33% travel by driving.
