About the Role

Tennessee Oncology, one of the nation’s largest community-based cancer care specialists, is seeking a Medical Laboratory Technician (MLT) Pathology Level I. This entry-level position in the HMS Pathology laboratory involves processing various patient specimens for immunological, histological, molecular, FISH, and clinical chemistry testing. The role requires proficiency in all laboratory processing areas and flexibility in work schedules and assignments.

Responsibilities

• Complete all aspects of immunological testing, including sample preparation, staining, acquisition, quality control assessment, and maintenance of reagents and equipment.
• Assist with administrative duties such as proficiency testing and quality control checks.
• Prepare reagent stock and working solutions, and monitor proper use and consumption of reagents, materials, and consumables.
• Adhere to laboratory procedures and processes, ensuring compliance with state and federal requirements.
• Maintain equipment and processes to aid in diagnosis and treatment of diseases.
• Follow proper guidelines for safe handling of blood, body fluids, and hazardous chemicals.
• Maintain accurate records of laboratory testing and results as described in the policy and procedure manual.
• Perform quality control procedures to ensure accuracy of clinical/pathology data.
• Maintain required inventory of laboratory supplies for operations in assigned areas.
• Proficiently use the Laboratory Information System (LIS) for ordering tests, rejecting tests, reviewing, and approving results.
• Perform routine maintenance on equipment as defined by the manufacturer.
• Collaborate with pathologists, lab managers, and other team members as required.
• Rotating weekend and holiday coverage as needed.

Requirements

• Current State of Tennessee Medical Laboratory Technician (MLT) License preferred but not required.
• Educational credits as defined by CLIA for laboratory work with a high school diploma.
• Maintains appropriate continuing education for certification and licensure.
• At least two years of clinical laboratory testing experience.
• Flow cytometry, protein electrophoresis, and/or molecular experience preferred.

Skills

• Ability to make independent decisions, process information accurately, and manage multiple projects simultaneously.
• Proficient in accurate pipetting and maintaining sterile conditions as required.
• Strong computer skills, especially with Excel and Word spreadsheets.
• Knowledge of principles and techniques of laboratory testing procedures and practices.
• Understanding of medical terminology.
• Demonstrates understanding of proper quality control procedures, use of control materials, and documentation of QC results and corrective actions.
• Effective oral and written communication skills, and excellent interpersonal skills.
